2006
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved brother, husband, father and grandfather, Miguel R. Ramos.
He died of a sudden cardiac arrest while trimming the bushes in his front yard on Oct. 11, 2006, at 4:20 p.m. He died as he lived, working hard and doing something useful.
Miguel was born on May 6, 1923, in Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States as a bracero, arriving in Oxnard on April 24, 1953. There, he met and married the love of his life, Herminia, who was born, coincidentally, on an April 24. Dad used to say that it was proof of the mystery of God. Together they raised six children and achieved the American dream, buying a house, running a business (Garden City) and sending all six children to college.
He was an active member of Christ the King Church. He raised funds for the construction of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and for the giving of Christmas baskets to the needy, "Las Canastas Navidenas." He was a frequent and lively participant in the radio talk show "El Pueblo Opina." He strongly believed in pro-life and personal responsibility.
Miguel became a United States citizen in 1997 because he believed in voting for laws and people who promoted social justice and protected the vulnerable and poor. People said that he was an example of what a man should be. You could always find Dad in one of three places, work, church or home, and no matter where, always with family.
He is survived by his wife, Herminia; children, Rafael (wife Silvia) of Port Hueneme, Carmen (husband Robert) of Port Hueneme, Lupe (husband Mohammed) of Downey, Miguel (wife Martha) of Newhall, Bernardo (wife Daniela) of Sylmar and Manuel (wife Sonia) of Oxnard; sister, Yolanda Mitchell (husband Jim) of Quartzite, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Matthew, Shadi, Sarah, Miguel, Shayda, Mariel, Nicholas, Cynthia, Brianna, Jackie, Maya and Camille.
Miguel's viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., at Garcia Mortuary, 629 South A St., Oxnard. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 500 N. Juanita Ave., Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garcia Mortuary, 629 South A St., Oxnard. For further information, please call 1-805-486-9148.

Martha, Miguel, Sarah, Mariel(Gigi), and Michelle: Our deepest sympathies. We all know that life is a fragil gift from God. He gives life to us and bestows his greatest hopes on us, his children. With this gift we are given the freedom to make choices and live life to its fullest in any way we choose. It is with this freedom that we live, but with this freedom we have a responsibility to ourselves our loved ones and more importantly, God. It is with confidence that I say that Mr Miguel Ramos, father, brother, grandfather, friend and much more, took this resposibility to heart. A person did not need to know him or be in constatnt contact with him to know that he was a beautiful person who lived life in an exemplary way. In a way that we should all learn from. That is the most important Legacy of all.
