Robert Queen Obituary

Robert Michael Queen

Oxnard

Robert Michael Queen passed away quietly on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. After a long illness.

Robert was the oldest son of Everett and Anne Queen. He was born in Gary, Indiana on September 28, 1945. He spent his first 6 years in Gary. When he was 6 the family moved west and settled in Encino, California. He graduated from Birmingham High School. His first year of college was spent at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo. After a year there, he transferred to Pierce Junior College. He then attended San Fernando Valley State College, now California State University at Northridge where he majored in mathematics.

While at college, Robert worked in the college library, where he met his future wife Margaret. After graduation, they were married. They moved to South Central Los Angeles, where he taught and finished the requirements for his teaching credential. The couple moved to Oxnard, where Robert took a teaching position and spent the next 27 years teaching math at Fremont Junior High School in Oxnard. During this time Robert and Margaret raised 9 children.

Robert loved early mornings at the swap meet and taking his family for walks on the beach. He instilled in his children a passion for learning and exploration and taught them the importance of loving relationships.

Robert retired in 1995 and spent the rest of his life enjoying his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Anne and by his brother John. He is survived by his wife Margaret and children Jennifer, Susan, Barbara, Emily, Daniel, Stephen, Matthew, Sarah and Joshua, 10 grandchildren, and by his brother Richard of Washington.

A funeral Mass and celebration of Robert's life will be held on February 19 2016 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church 2511 South C Street in Oxnard at 10:00 a.m. with the Rosary recited at 9:30. Burial will be at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.

Sincere condolences to the entire Queen family, many memories of Mr. Queen giving me and Sarah a ride to school and just listening to him talk about his love of trains and his crazy DVD collection. He fought a good fight and now may he rest in peace.
