Jean Marie Peterson, age 89, of Sheridan, IL, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at her home on the family farm surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 6, 1927, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Clyde and Mildred (Peterson) Bassett.
Jean was united in marriage on November 30, 1946, at the Park Manor Congregational Church in Chicago, IL, to John LeRoy Peterson and they spent the next 61 happy years together until his passing on June 11, 2008. Together they were the owners and operators, since 1969, of Rolling Oaks Campground in Sheridan, IL. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Peterson was recently attending the Sheridan United Methodist Church in Sheridan, IL. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gary John (Carol) Peterson of Waterman, IL, Evelyn Marie (Scott) Simon of Montgomery, IL, and Linda Joanne Coffey of Columbia, KY; ten grandchildren, Joe (Michelle) Peterson, Jeremy (Karyn) Peterson, Matthew (Jackie) Peterson, Tammy Peterson, Melissa (Trevis) Worley, Samantha Peterson, Angela (Keith) Clancy, Eric (Lesa) Simon, Jennifer (Ray) Brock, and Mindy (Kevin) Yarberry; her twenty great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Clyde and Mildred Bassett; her husband, John LeRoy Peterson; son, Larry Peterson; grandson, Geoffrey Peterson; two great-grandchildren, Brendyn Clancy and Reagan Brock; son-in-law, Jerry Coffey; her sister, Helen Lionberg; her brother, Robert Bassett; and one nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory, 1275 S. Countyline Rd., Sandwich, IL with Pastor Hyo Sun Oh officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Sandwich, IL. Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory in Sandwich, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Meteor Masonic Lodge #283, 301 E. Center St., Sandwich, IL, or the Sheridan United Methodist Church, 219 S. Bushnell St., Sheridan, IL.
