David Warren Cross David Warren Cross, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 68, after dealing with heart and kidney issues. Dave was born in Oakland, California on January 8, 1946, yet soon relocated to Fresno where he attended local schools, graduating from McLane High School in 1964. He started his career in the grocery business in 1964, beginning with Mayfair Markets, before his high school graduation. Dave entered the U.S. Army in May 1967 and was stationed in Korea for a brief time. Upon his return to the states in 1968, he married Janis Wiggins and had two daughters; Stacey and Melissa. He continued to work for Mayfair here in the Fresno area and was officially discharged from the Army Reserve in 1973. Dave then married Ginger Jones on July 4, 1980 in Visalia, California. After Mayfair Markets closed its doors, Dave joined the Vons Grocery Co in 1983, where he worked his way up from night crew to district manager, finally retiring from the grocery business in 2007 after 43 years of service. Dave loved playing golf, a good bottle of scotch, a cigar, and trips to LA, Palm Springs, and Hawaii. Following retirement, Dave enjoyed frequent vacations in Pismo, California with his wife Ginger and their dog, Jack and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Donna Youngman. Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ginger Cross, sister Paula Kinch and her husband Mike, sister in law Nancy Smith, daughter Stacey Firpo and husband Mike, daughter Melissa Downing and husband Cliff, step-son David Jones and wife Tammy, step-son Rick Jones and wife Inga. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Nick and Matthew Firpo, Brady Downing, Kadie, Kacie, and Kala Jones, Eric and Julia Jones, and 2 great-grandchildren: Dylan and Ali Jones. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5th at the Miller Memorial Chapel in Visalia, California. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 6th at 11:00 am at the Miller Memorial Chapel with burial at the Visalia Public Cemetery.
