Phyllis Ann Gilbert

May 23, 1941 - May 3, 2025

Phyllis Ann Gilbert, a cherished matriarch, and long-time resident of Coweta, OK, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK at the age of 83. She was born on May 23, 1941, in Ervin, CA to Theodore "Ted" Winston and Rose Elmira (Howell) Gilbert. Phyllis's life was a testament to her resilience, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Phyllis's early years were spent in the warm embrace of Ervin, CA, before her family moved to Tulsa, OK, where she attended Union schools and Will Rogers High School. Her education laid the foundation for a life full of dedication and service to others. Phyllis's career was as diverse as it was impactful, including roles at the Coweta Library, the Coweta Police Department dispatch, the local newspaper office in Wagoner, and Davis Elliott. Alongside her beloved husband, Bob, she co-owned Gilbert Towing in Coweta, OK, where they worked side by side for many years, building not just a business but a legacy.

Beyond her family and work, Phyllis had a zest for life that was contagious. She enjoyed the thrill of going to the casino and was an active member of a bowling league in the 1980s. Her competitive spirit and sense of fun were evident in all she did. Phyllis married the love of her life, Bobby "Bob" Gene Gilbert, on November 2, 1956, in Coweta, OK. Their union was one of mutual respect, deep affection, and shared adventures, setting a beautiful example for generations to come.

Phyllis's life was enriched by her love for her family. She is survived by her son, Bobby Lynn Gilbert and his wife Jennifer of Coweta, OK; her grandchildren, Jason Gilbert and his wife Linda of Tulsa, OK, and Sarah Hall and her husband Cameron of Broken Arrow, OK; her four great-grandchildren, Jonah Gilbert, Colton Hall, Enzo Garcia-Pham, and Rylen Hall; her sisters, Lilly Stewart of Coweta, OK, and Janis Buttress and her husband Ron of Beggs, OK; along with her special niece, Janet Covert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby "Bob" Gene Gilbert; her parents, Ted Winston and Rose Elmira Gilbert; her son, Benny Gene Gilbert; her brother, Don Gilbert; and her sister, Linda Gilbert.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 12 to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Services celebrating her life will take place at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK, with Kyle Gilbert officiating.
