RIP Andrea, my childhood friend. I will always remember you as being lighthearted and carefree. We never crossed paths as adults but, were forever connected by family and friends.

This is so hard for me, as I say goodbye to a cherished childhood friend I met on a playground in Arlington in 1966. I was seven when I spotted three beautiful little girls playing on a basketball court across the street from their home. When I approached them and asked if I could play with them, Andrea and her sisters, Yvette and Yvonne (also seven), welcomed me with open arms. We have been friends ever since. I have so many wonderful memories of Andrea who was always with her sisters. She was high-spirited and so full of life. As children, the four of us played with dolls, drank tea from their lovely mother's strawberry tea cups while singing "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," went to Girl Scout meetings together, saw James Bond and Barbara Steisand movies, danced and drank Shirley Temples at the Channel Inn (home of the Frank Hinton Trio), shared in each other's birthday parties with Andrea receiving gifts also on her twin sisters' birthday, and so much more. Andrea spotted me a few years ago at a sidewalk café on 16th Street in Washington. I noticed a tall woman standing at a distance staring in my direction. Without my eyeglasses, I could not see the person's face clearly. Given the height and color-coordinated attire complete with red dangle earrings, I thought it might be Andrea. As I left my table and walked closer to get a better look, I was happy to see that the person before me was Andrea. Just like our first meeting on the playground so many years ago, there she was smiling at me and welcoming me with open arms. Andrea's friendship made a difference in my life. I will always love her and remember her smile, kindness and her sweet spirit. The Andrea I grew up with was an angel on earth. Today, she is an angel in heaven. Rest in peace dear friend and little sister! I love you!!

Andrea, although I have not seen you in years - when I look at your photo, I clearly remember the bright eyed, idealistic person full of energy; always telling me a story. God has you in his arms and I am glad our paths crossed. Rest in peace, Nia

I am sending Andrea Fatimah Erwin's family and friends my condolences and deepest sympathy.
I had a special honor and privilege to meet Andrea at Woodward Prep in D.C. when it became a co-ed school. She and I became friends and, soon afterwards, realized we shared the same birthday day, August 10. Each year we would contact each other to rejoice and celebrate ourselves, in our special Leonine manner, with birthday greetings and having tea over the latest happenings.
As the years passed, we grew apart as life pulled us toward our destinies, and the comedies and tragedies of our theater upbringing played out in each of our lives in real time. Social media allowed us to get back together, and I was very thankful that it did. We had a lot to catch up on we had found loves, had endured losses and were maneuvering devastating times still wanting to pursue our dreams.
Andrea will always have a place in my heart and be fondly remembered. May her spirit be at peace and find rest and rejoice in afterlife and its next iteration. Lots of love to all of those who were touched by her presence. May you be blessed and continue to flourish in God's presence. One Love GONE TOO SOON!
