Art was a great guy. I first met Art when I was 21 and on leave from the USCG. He invited me to dinner at the old T-4 on NY Ave. I walked into this "Shrine to Legends". It smelled of smoke, diesel fuel, and maybe hay. I was treated like an old friend and immediately knew becoming a Firefighter was my calling. I am forever grateful to Art for introducing me to the DCFD. Art became a big part of my life, when I needed him he always showed up with a smile and common sense. You could say when I fell in love with the Fire Department I fell in love with Art. He will be missed by my family and we will cherish his memory. May you have "Fair Winds and Following Seas" on your newest journey!
