AUGUSTINE D. CATALANO (Age 91)
Augustine D Catalano, husband and father passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2021. He was born in Washington, DC, and resided in Great Falls, VA where he raised family. Skeets started his jockey career and rode his first win in 1949. He rode from New York to Florida during the 1940's and 1950's, including Pimlico, Saratoga, Belmont. Skeets retired from the race track and went into business with his father Joseph M. Catalano Lighting and Electric Supply Co. in Falls Church, VA. Skeets was predeceased by his parents, Joseph M. and Hattie L. Catalano, his wife Constance G. (Connie) of 37 years, and is survived by two daughters, Debra Lee (John M. Galuski), and Pamela Louise (Paul B. Swann); five grandchildren, Daniel M. (Ashli Galuski), Brian J. (Michelle Galuski), David M. (Lauren Galuski), Stacey R. Swann (Dustin Rodriguez), and Joseph H. (Lindsay Swann); and three great grandchildren. Arrangements will be provided by dignitymemorial.com in Falls Church, VA. Services will be private and held at a later date.

I found this photo from my and JR’s wedding in 1982. He is pictured here with Becky’s son, Cameron. We were sorry to hear of Skeets’ passing. He will be missed.

I was sorry to read about the passing of Mr. Catalano. Although I did not know him personally, working with the men and women he employed at the office/store in Falls Church and later in Sterling for more than 40 years (continuing with most of the same staff after CED purchased his company) was to know the type of person he was. I especially remember people like Bill W., Arnold P., Dave S., Jeff S., Uta W., Kevin C. and many others from their time at Joseph M. Catalano, W. Broad St., Falls Church, Va. He employed first class people which made his business first class. He spent a lot of time at the counter (instead of in his office) so he could chat with the people (many of them friends) who came by to pick up material. The relationship line below does not list business associate, but that is what he was. He was certainly more than an acquaintance.

RIP my friend. You had a beautiful ride. We had some great laughs and a wonderful friendship. I will miss our daily calls. Thanks for the great memories of the times we were together.
