On Saturday, May 10, 2014, of Olney, MD. Beloved wife of Geoffrey Schaefer; mother of Hailey and Katelyn Schaefer; daughter of John and Marcia Wilson; sister of Stephanie and Jessica Wilson; granddaughter of Nancy Gordon; niece of Alan (Betsy) Gordon and Susan Dorrow; daughter-in-law of Harry and Nanci Schaefer; sister-in-law of Greg (Robin) and Aaron Schaefer. We at Laurel High School remember Geoff's excitement as he planned his proposal to Denise. We knew that Denise was a special young woman who would light up the world. We are saddened by her sudden passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Geoff and his beautiful daughters.

Denise was often a smiling face in the crowd or on the deck at the Whitman swim meets, holding one or the other of her beautiful daughters while Geoff coached and held the other. We are so saddened by her loss.

Denise came to our house to tutor my daughter when she was in high school. Our family grew to admire her intelligence, her kindness and her loving nature. Denise felt like part of our family.We are deeply sorry for your loss.

Words fail to adequately express my thoughts at this time, but put simply, Denise was an incredible person, inside and out. For those of us who were fortunate to have known her, I consider us very lucky.

I only met Denise once when she came to tutor my daughter in math just a few weeks ago, but could immediately tell that she was a warm, kind and caring individual; such a tragic loss.
This tragedy hit way to close to home for me. I too lost my wife at the age of 41 and had two young children at the time so my heart goes out to Geoff.
Geoff, I know I don't know you but I feel a connection to you given our similar circumstances. As I mentioned on the phone when you called, ten years after my wife's death, I now facilitate grief support groups for widows/widowers and I will definitely reach out to you in a few weeks to check in and find out what I can do to help you and your family.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that is mourning this tragic loss.

I do not know Denise Shcaefer, however, I know she definitely had a great heart. Working as a counselor in one of the top counties in the Maryland Public School System speaks for itself. It always hurts to hear about a sudden passing especially when that individual touched so many lives on a daily basis, encouraging my generation to excel in every occupation, or vocation in which we choose. My condolences goes out to her husband Geoff and her two daughters Hailey and Katelyn. Geoff will continue to be an excellent father as he raises his daughters to be bright young women! God Bless Geoff, Hailey, & Katelyn.
