Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Dexter E. Wheelous US Army Sergeant 1st Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Hey Big Sarge, just thought I would give you some love on this day for the fallen. I worked for SSG Wheelous, at the time, at Ft Stewart, GA, and he was always telling me how to let things go that we can't change. I went into recruiting from there and he called me and asked me about school and how recruiting was different from being "on the line." It was the one time that he had to come to me for guidance. I will never forget the smile on your face, and now, again , it's time for me to let go of the things I cannot control. Dog Faced Soldiers!!!

I had the distinct Honor to work with him, hang out with his family, and he made me a better person just by being around him. I hit a low point and him and his family were there for me. Always my Brother and you were taken from us far too soon. Meet you on the high ground my brother.

My heart aches knowing you are no longer here. I will always remember our times working together....calm, cool and what a great smile you flashed at us all. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Dexter, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

SFC Wheelous (Wheel),
The time has continued to pass, but you and Sadie are thought of every, single day. The sound of your voice in my headset while we were on patrol from one place to another will always be there.
I will never know why God took you, but left me relatively alone on Christmas. I am a better man for having served with you. While everyone down here misses you, I know that you are laughing, and no doubt, schooling the angels in the game of dominoes.
Rest easy my brother, friend, our commo chief, you will never be forgotten.

I rode in honor of Dexter Wheelous during the 2007 Illinois Freedom Ride. It was both and pleasure and and a distinct honor for me to ride on behalf of such a brave and selfless man. Although I never personally knew Dexter, I can honestly say that I felt his presence with me that day and only hope that during my lifetime I can foster as much courage and contribute as much as he did during his short lifetime! He is definitely an Angel who is now looking over all of us, and I feel much safer because of it. God Bless you Dex, and thanks for letting me ride with you on that special day!

Sadie,
I was reading Dexter's obituary and I was deeply moved. I am trusting God to comfort you during this painful time.
I have been in the Ministry since 1979, and I have learned never to question God. He is the "giver and taker of life". I thank God because Dexter "...will never suffer nor know pain again..." I thank God because He has "...wiped away all tears from Dexter's eyes". I thank God because He allowed Dexter to share his life with you on this earth.
In 2004, God blessed me with a "Personalized" tape ministry for our Troops. I consider it an "honor" to do what I do. There are not enough hours in a day or ways to say "thank you" for all of the sacrifices.
I will FOREVER "Salute" Sgt lst Class Dexter E. Wheelous!
Stay strong and encouraged!
Yours in Christ,

Wheelous was my soldier in 1987 while stationed in Germany. Although I was the senior I often found myself learning about patience and not stressing from Dexter. We laughed alot and often shared long conversation while 'on the rock' about life and the Army. He truly loved the Army and was dedicated to it. I have been searching for my friend for over a year and had listed an entry on a miltary web site last year and was awaiting his reply. My search tonight found the sad news that my freind had fallen but is now watching over us always.
He was truly a soldier and a kind and honest person; I was blessed to have met him.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I only knew Wheelous for a few too short years. I was stationed with him at Ft. Gordon, GA ('91). I remember just about every Friday, after final formation, Wheelous would head home to spend time with his father; he loved him so dearly. Me and another one of our then buddies (Ferrot?) traveled with him one week(end)--to attend and support him through his father's funeral.
After returning from Desert Storm with him, shortly thereafter, I discharged. But before that, Wheelous and I did nothing but goof off all day long in the motorpool. His smile was bigger than this world could hold. And when he laughed? The universe shook out a helping spoonful of peace and tranquilty like none other.
For months now, I have had this insatiable, "nagging" feeling to search online for old Army buddies. Now I know why... This was God's way of letting me re-connect with my buddy--one last time.
Peace to you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Dexter was such a kind person. I knew him in 1993 - 1996 when we were stationed in Karlsrhue Germany - when he was in the Signal Corps. When I think of him, all I remember is he always kept you laughing and smiling, and I can still see his face all swollen up from his bad allergies (they used to tear him up!). I just heard about his death today - and I haven't spoken to him in over ten years, but it's such news that will have me torn up for a long time - THAT'S JUST HOW GOOD OF A PERSON HE WAS. My prayers are with you.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dexter was one-of-a-kind. I have never met anyone who had so much love for people and who was so full of joy. I will mostly miss that smile because he never left home without it. I am truly glad that I knew Dexter and will forever hold a place in my heart for him. Sadie I love you girl and I will continue to pray for you. I know you will get stronger because you had a true soldier. Love ya

To Dexter's Family,Please accept my deepest sympathies. I was blessed with knowing Dexter and his lovely wife Sadie. He was a person who made a difference in this world. He was a good husband, friend, and a caring person. He is now with our Lord. Dexter, I will always remember you. You don't know how you encouraged me to help others.....
Sadie, May all the wonderful memories that you hold, help you thru your time of grief. Please know I'm ALWAYS here if you need me. I'll pray for You and both of your family's.

I only knew SFC Dexter Wheelous for a short time and I just loved his spirit, he showed me kindness like i was someone he knew for years and i rarely see that when i meet new people. It breaks my heart to see him go, but i know he is in a better place. So you will be truly missed and loved. So farewell until we might again. (Sadie always remember this is not an ending, but a beginning for Dexter).
