Dear Dillon,
Wondering again how life would be if you were still with us. Much has happened and it saddens me to know you have missed so much. Your big sister is doing great. You have a nephew and three nieces. Your baby brothers are adults. Your mom and I are well. I wish I could hear your responses when we sit together and talk. The silence is lonely! I miss you son.
Rest well until we meet again.

Ten years...the ache still pervades every part of my body and soul when I think of you. Thinking of Dillon today, and his friends and loved ones left behind. It's been nine years tomorrow and so much has changed since then.
Dillon was always very patient with me and encouraged me to push myself to be a better runner in a way that has left a lasting impression on me. He was the kindest person I have ever met and expressed faith in me when I couldn't do it for myself. It was in his memory that I twice ran the Army 10-miler which is something I never dreamed I would have accomplished.
To the Jutras family, thank you so much for all your love and support the last few years. You always made me feel like I was a part of your family.

Ah my son…another Independence Day approaches and we the living celebrate our freedoms. Freedom is not absolute but obtained in varying levels of access. Here in the great USA, we have a government that decides upon our rules and regulations, but how can one complain. If we look abroad at the lack of freedoms witnessed in much of the world today, we see that our freedom is tremendous, even if not perfect. Many do not recognize the freedoms we have and others simply take the freedoms we have for granted. Many do not see the value of sacrificing oneself in the pursuit of freedom because that ultimate sacrifice means you are not here to enjoy the freedom you fought so hard for. But for those that cry foul, I want to remind them that those who give all in the belief of freedom seldom are fighting for themselves. They are fighting for us. They are fighting for their mom, their dad, their sister, their brother, their son, their daughter, their family and their friends. That is the ultimate gift they have provided us…the giving of their life and soul to the heavens so that our life and soul can remain here on earth, with those we love, with the freedoms we enjoy.
Ah my son…I appreciate what you have given to me although I wish the price had not been so heavy. Let's trust this great nation remembers the sacrifice of so many this Independence Day as they celebrate this 4th of July.
To you my son, rest well and thank you.
Until we meet again.
Love,
Dad

Dillon,
It's so crazy to think it's been eight years that you've been gone. The missing you never goes away. No matter how much time passes it still hurts to try to wrap my head around the fact that you're gone for real. I hope you can see how much everyone's grown up, I know you'd be so proud if you could. Your whole family is so brave and so so strong. Something so terrible couldn't have happened to a more wonderful and precious family as your parents and siblings (and niece and nephew too!) but I know that somehow it's all in God's plan. Just know that you're constantly missed and forever loved by so many people.
And you have so many people that can't wait to see you again one day.

October 29, 2005....I felt my deepest sadness that day. Over these past 8 years, that sadness has mixed with pride - I experience a deep sense of pride every time I have the honor to share your story. In your too short 20 years and 27 days, you exhibited selflessness and courage that most will never exhibit in their lives that will be lived much longer. It really doesn't make sense...you truly were the good dying young. Through your death, though, many of your family members and friends have grown closer and have chosen to work through their unfathomable sadness by serving others. You would be extremely proud of many!
Just 9 days ago, several gathered to run for you - your memory and your honor. Every year is sweeter than the last. I love being a part of carrying on a tradition you and your family began.
I remember...yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Thank you, precious Dillon. I'll see you one day in Paradise.
Infinite love,

Dillon,
The days pass by but we never forget and the pain of your loss will never leave us. But...knowing you died in such an honorable way doing what you felt was true and just, reduces that pain a little and helps us continue in your absense. Most of the trival daily skirmishes of our lives, when we actual pause and consider, are nothing compared to what you had to face that day in Iraq back in October 2005. Please forgive my stupidity as I live my life. As I go through life and take my many missteps, my memories of you and your sacrifice helps me walk true again. Thank you for being you.

I remember you every Memorial Day. I remember the talks we had about the Army. You watched your classmates go on ahead of you,and the passing of fellow JROTC alum Bihn Le did not deter your dream of being a Soldier. There was a whole group of you...You were all going to be Rangers, because "Rangers Lead The Way". I am glad you did realize your dream. I mourn that you are not still living it today. Today I found your picture with a mini-bio on the wall of heroes they erected here in the Desert. It just didn't seem like enough, so I printed out some of the more in depth bios and some of the remembrances I found about you online. They will be there until the crew packs the display away until next year. At least this year people might read and find an insight into what the U.S. really lost when you passed. I promise to drink my near-beer tonight in your honor.
