So sorry for your loss. Dorothy and the Avery family generously hosted me when I was an intern (at Oberlin then) twice around 1991. Best wishes, Anita

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you can keep your head up just by remembering what great times you had and many laughs that you shared. She will be watching you from above and making sure that you keep a smile on your face because of all the moments she had brought to you and the family she has left behind for you to enjoy. Take care and hope to see you soon. Love, Joy & Mark Shroyer(Walkers Dock)

I first worked with Dottie at FBIS, where she was not only a gifted analyst but a warm, engaging presence in our often dismal endeavors. Our official paths intersected many times over the years, and recently we have bumped into each other at the Cathedral and at Carmina concerts. She really lit up my life at these moments, and I will miss her.

As a fellow art student with Dottie in Joan Samworth's class, I want to express my condolences to George and the Avery family. Dottie was such a quiet generous inspiration to our art class members. Her work was reflective of her--delicate, assured, and seeing her art was oh so pleasurable at the end of our Thurs. art sessions. One day, Dottie was particularly insightful when I was completing one of my paintings a few years back. I had painted a vase with flowers with a background that just wasn't working. I began to paint over the background, and got about half way finished before taking a break. When I came back to "finish" the job, Dottie's quiet vice rose up behind me--"Oh, don't paint over all of the background", she said. "It looks great just as it is". That painting hangs on the wall of the entryway of my dear twin sister's home. Each time I visit, I'll have another opportunity to remember the spirit of Dottie Avery.

Dear Avery Family-
The day we spent in CT together was so wonderful. I loved getting e-mails from Dottie about theater and art. We feel so lucky to have gotten to meet a woman so warm, so passionate, so interested in so many things. We share in your sadness.
