Beloved wife for 62 years to Lawrence Bates, Jr.; devoted mother of sons Michael, Kenneth and Scott and daughters-in-law Kathy, Tierney and Jo-Dee; loving grandmother of Amy and David; loving cousin of Jon Duckwall. Betty was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church, 4604 Ravensworth Rd., Annandale, VA, where visitation will be held on October 28, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. followed a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial at 1 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to Hope Lutheran Church or Inova Fairfax Hospital Auxiliary.
