Mr. Fears knew my dad and was so kind to offer me an internship at Q107 when I was a sophomore at American University in 1978. It was a great learning experience for me and to have the chance to know Ernie was a highlight of my college years. He was always kind and always took the time with me. Thank you and God Bless his family.

Whereas, we the members of the Washington, DC Chapter of Florida A&M University National Alumni Association, the "Mighty, Mighty, DC Rattlers" are sharing along with the Fears family and the whole Rattler Nation, the loss of one of our most faithful graduates Ernest Fears, Jr. May his good works never be forgotten, may his many loves cherish him and may we all hold him in warm regard. Although he no longer walks the earth, we know he is in a better place with other great Rattlers like Costa Kittles, Robert Mungen, Bob Hayes, Benjamin Perry, and Moses Miles. Ernest Fears leaves behind a legacy of "Excellence With Caring". May the love of the Rattler Nation transcend the many miles that separate us from the Fears family and recognize that our hearts are with you in love and sympathy. Hubba! Hubba !!! Three Silent Strikes for Ernie!!! The Rattlers will......

"We're a TEAM"

And when Ernie Fears said that at the top of his lungs you couldn't disagree...we WERE a team. I'm proud to say that I was a small part of a rag-tag group of radio people that he turned into a winning team at a place called Q107. A station that came out of nowhere and went from the bottom of the ratings to the very top in a flash and stayed there for many years. Ernie always knew we would win because there wasn't another option. When I left the station in December of 1980 I knew I would never meet anyone like him in my career.

One of a kind...and a very kind soul..

Thank you Ernie. Much love, Joe

My deepest symapthies go out to the children and family of Mr Ernie Fears. He is a man, who will truly be missed by Howard University, the radio community and humanity as a whole.

My roommate introduced me to Ernie Fears' class and I started skipping my classes in another school to attend his-- and he never put me out. He welcomed me. Because of that I took chances in life and found what I wanted professionally and life in general. We went on to have a great friendship and I kept in touch with him via frequent phone calls. He definitely made an impact on my life that I could never repay. I will truly miss him and I am extremely grateful for meeting Ernie Fears in this lifetime.

My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the Fears family.

Just 3 or 4 weeks or so ago Mr. Fears encouraged me on in my career and personal life. His support will always be there.

We played golf several times and once he finally said, "Bartt, how's it feel havin' an old man like me whip (you)."

Always funny. Always caring.

My deepest symathy goes out to the entire Fears' family. I am truly saddened to hear the news of Ernie's passing.

Like many of the entries contained herein, Ernie Fears had a tremendous impact on my life. He was a supportive, challenging and inspirational force. Only a special man could demonstrate such positivity and generosity while seeking nothing in return. I will never be able to repay Ernie for inspiring me to take control of my education and my life. I will never be able to thank him enough for getting me my first "real" job. I will never be able to repay what he gave to me and many of my colleagues.

I am truly sad that you are gone Coach, but I am grateful and truly happy that I was blessed enough to have you as part of my life.

All the best to the family and friends you have left behind. You continue to LIVE in all of us.

Dr. Fears was one of, if not the most, impressive professors and men I came to know during my four years, and after, at Howard.
He will be missed greatly, but remembered moreso for all of his positive... and influential ways that simply will be cherished always.
To the family, my condolances and congratualtions for having such an incredible man to be a part of your life and for sharing him in mine.

Dr. Fears and I have only worked together for the last 3 years as I have participated in the Howard University Media Sales Seminar. During that time my respect has quickly grown with his "get it done attitude". When things didn't go as planned he thought up and executed Plan B without a fuss, even if it cost him personally. I will always have fond memories and a great respect for his talents.
Rest in Peace

I had the pleasure of getting to know Professor Fears from the beginning of my Howard career. He always had a kind word to say. Prof. Fears had a way of making you want to be "better". At Howard it was evident that he wanted success for his students even more than we wanted it for ourselves. To call him an inspiration would be an understatement.

If in my lifetime I can manage to give half as much to half as many, then I will have accomplished much indeed.

My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the family at their time of mourning. My God comfort you with his mercy and grace.

I remember Coach fears as a great teacher and basketball coach at Norfolk state college where I attended. He was my teacher for 2 semesters of physical education. He was a great teacher in the class room just like he was on the basketball court where his victories are still among fond memories of my colleges years. My condolence to the Fears family.

There could never be any words to express how much of an impact Mr. Fears made in my life. He was a great man, always there to lend a hand or a word of encouragement. I would not be where I am today if it were not for the pertinent tools he taught me. I will be forever grateful to him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Fears family.

My deepest condolences to the Fears family. Professor Fears is the reason I am in broadcasting today. His passion for the business was contagious. I feel truly blessed to have been one of his students at Howard. I walked into to his class unsure of my future and where I wanted to go or wanted to be but he changed that. I will always point back to that time as a defining period in my life. Not only did he teach fundamentals but more importantly he taught us life lessons, how to live in the moment and to reach for the stars. He led by example and was a true inspiration. I will never forget his enthusiasm, generosity and encouragement. His students are not only better broadcasters but also more importantly better people for having known him. You truly made a difference... to me and no doubt to many others. Thank you Professor Fears.

Although it's been years since I have seen or spoken with Ernie, I was filled with sadness reading about his passing. He was always a delight to be around, so well-liked and respected by everyone at the DC stations. He and Andy O sure made an odd-couple as GM's and I can still see him in his tennis whites coming down the hallway like it was yesterday. My condolences to the Fears family - he was a wonderful man and will be missed by many. With deepest sympathy ...

My first job out of college was at WMAL in Washington. Ernie was there and successfully launched Q107 --put a great staff together--made it into a powerhouse station...and a great place to work. His kindness guidance, and encouragement will always be remembered and appreciated by me--and many others, I'm sure.

Our greatest sympathy to the family of Coach Fears. What an awesome man, and what a legacy to behold. I have so many childhood memories of Coach Fears, but most of all I remember how he was always a good friend to my father Coach " Dick " Price. His great "roasting" ability made us laugh and made us cry, but most of all made us look at life just the way it was and to make the most of it. God Bless your soul Coach Fears. You'll be greatly missed.

Professor Fears was the single most important part of my whole Howard U. education. My heart rejoices over the many fruitful seeds that he planted in the world of radio.
