Gail Andrea Shields
Gail Andrea Shields, born August 8, 1939, passed away on May 1, 2021. Gail studied at Mt. Holyoke and the University of Madrid and graduated with a BA in Philosophy from Hunter College. She earned an MA in Philosophy from Columbia University and a JD from Hofstra. She became a well-known speaker and mentor through her service work. Gail was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Shields, and is survived by her daughter Julie (Ed Peartree), daughter-in-law Jill, her grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Elizabeth, Darien, Kelsey, and Annie, her sister Joan Feinberg, and former husband, Dr. Lawrence Shields. I knew her a bright light of inspiration to many people. Such a great sense of humor. I can still hear her voice. She was always there whenever I needed a volunteer up at Arlington Hospital. A great example of a life fully-lived.

I was a close friend of Gayle’s through her service work. She was so incredibly helpful to me and we had many many conversations at Starbucks in Falls Church where she talked in such glowing terms about her family and especially her beloved grandchildren. I will miss her very much.
