GEORGE BUMBRAY Obituary
George Alexander Bumbray, Jr.
Architect George Alexander Bumbray, Jr. Passed away peacefully on July 25, 2021 in Takoma Park, Maryland, surrounded by family. He was born on June 9, 1943 in Washington, DC. He graduated from McKinley Technology High School in 1961 and studied and practiced architecture in Washington, DC and New Haven, Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (1970, Yale University); a Master of Architecture (1970, Yale University) and a Master of Environmental Design (1972, Yale University). He is survived by his father, George A. Bumbray, Sr. of Sarasota, Florida; his wife of 44 years, Sherry Bellamy, Esquire; his children George A. Bumbray III, Rashida Bumbray, Miles Bumbray and Cecily Bumbray, sons-in-law, Rashid Shabazz and Tirop Kiituur, and five grandchildren. A memorial for family and close friends will be held on September 22, at 4 p.m. at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland. The family requests that donations be made "In Honor of George A. Bumbray, Jr." to support the architecture and design program at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Sherry and Family,
From the day that I met him, George entered my book as the "coolest" guy I knew. Over 40+ years, remarkably, my image of George never changed. I know how much he meant to all of you, just from the way he impacted me. He will be missed and all of you continue in my prayers that the God of all comfort will walk with you and bring you comfort in the years to come. Blessings!
