Today, remembering Jerry, I looked in the internet to find his contact information so I could say hi. Regretfully, my search uncovered the very sad news that he is no longer with us. Jerry was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor, an avid watch repair enthusiast among other things besides being a great ophthalmologist. I met him in New Orleans during his medical residency/fellowship there. We also got together to attend another friend /doctor's wedding in Washington in the late 80's ( Dr. Krueger). I didn't have the privilege of meeting his family but I would like to though significantly belated, express my deepest sympathy, he was a good friend and we worked together at Ochsner Clinic for a few years. I have not spoken or seen him since he left New Orleans, but I thought about him often especially when I encountered a rectangular antique watch in a shop. Today I wanted to call him to say hi only to find out he had left us. I salute Jerry keeping warm memories of him in this vast realm, his jolly nature left a lasting impression in many of us. God bless his soul.

Although it has been 6 yrs since
Gerry left this earth to meet God, it feels like yesterday.
Always kind, thoughtful, and supportive, he was more than a life long friend. He was family.
He helped us with our mother who considered him a son; my siblings & I thought of him as a brother. Long will I remember our many laughs and visits.
Thank you, Gerry.
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I am stunned to hear of Dr. Dewitt's passing. Just a few weeks ago I talked to him in his office. Received a letter today from his wife with the terrible news. I am so terribly sorry that I won't be able to see my doctor any more. He was so kind and truly cared. He told me what was wrong with my eyes and that there was nothing we could do for the time being. So we both waited. There was hope. I am going to miss this wonderful doctor. Yes, he was funny too and he always had a smile for everyone. He was special! My condolences go out to his wife and family. I shall never forget this kind person.

I went to Good Counsel and graduated a year behind Jerry. I did not know him until we worked together at Holy Cross Hospital 1972-1973. It was a fun job and he was very popular. Our paths crossed briefly when I worked at Georgetown Hospital and he was finishing med. school.
I am so sorry for your loss.

As kids of the '50's and '60's Jerry, Bobby, my brothers and I along with hordes of neighborhood friends celebrated holidays, birthdays, winters sledding down Ross Ct., summers playing baseball in the street on Lanier Dr., spying on our our parents' cocktail parties and,of course, St. Michael's... together, for many happy years. Very good memories.

Dear Judy, Leland, and Grace,
We are so shocked and saddened to hear this news. Just found out this evening so won't be able to attend services tomorrow, but want you to know we are thinking of you all. Will miss my old friend (32 years!), and his crazy sense of humor. Had some great email exchanges with Jerry just a couple weeks ago, and he cracked me up as always. What a great guy, friend, father, and husband. I remember him talking about all of you over the years, and he was very happy with his life and loved you all so much. Jerry was very talented and it seemed like there wasn't anything he couldn't do. What a mensch! He will be missed by so many. My sincere condolences to you Judy, and the kids. This is so sad.

Jerry helped you enjoy life... He touched many lives in a very positive way, professionally and personally. We should all celebrate his life and consider ourselves lucky to have known him;. Joanne and I remember Jerry fondly... We never laughed so hard as the time the 3 of us went to a movie together... We were the only 3 in the entire theater laughing, but that was Jerry...
