ALTHEA HARSHAW FLACK

January 30, 2021

To the Raper Family I extend my condolences from the Harshaw Family.
I formerly met Mrs. Raper on a Monday morning when I joined the New Generation Bowling League in Marlow Heights, MD. I noticed she resembled a lady I would see at my Harshaw/Hunt Family reunions and thought she must be kin. My father, Arthur Harshaw passed in 2008 and I noticed Mrs. Raper entering the church. I stopped to greet her and asked if she knew my father. Her reply..." I use to live with him!" My mouth dropped! At that time we started walking toward my Uncle Leonard and she explained, Her mother allowed her to stay with the Harshaws to attend school because their house was closer to the school. The Harshaw's lived in Lawndale, NC just outside Shelby, NC. Whew! That explained her closeness to my family. William and me attended Anacostia High School together with me not knowing our familys' relationship. During Mrs. Rapers' participation in the Senior Olpymics, I became reaquainted with her surviving children who would accompany her to the Senior Games. She enjoyed receiving the Bowling Gold Medal in her age category most every year. Rest in paradise Mrs. Raper. You are surely missed.

Mrs. Raper became a dear friend from the day we entered nursing school at DC General Hospital. We traveled to NC to harvest the garden with my mother. We transported chickens and canned vegetables. She was present for one of my dads old fashioned “hog killings “. She could make an out of this world sweet potato pie! May she Rest In Peace. She was truly loved.

I have known Deaconess Raper for many years at our Emmanuel Bapt. Church in Washington DC. She was a strong christian lady with lots of GODLY wisdom. She will be sorely missed. I will keep the family in prayer for strength during this season. She lived a long fruitful life.

Was blessed to have known Mrs. Raper and to have lovingly called her, MOM. Love and light to my friend Karen. I wish you peace that exceeds all understanding that Mom is now at rest. ~ Tanya Henderson
