On Thursday, July 24, 2003. He was born in New York City in what was then Jewish Harlem. He attended New York City schools including City College of New York. In 1938, he was awarded a scholarship to the Commercial Illustration Studios, School of Art, atop New York's Flatiron Building. Graduating in 1940, he moved to Washington, DC to take a job as an assistant artist designer with the U.S. Public Health Service. Through grade promotions, he eventually rose to the rank of visual information officers, directing the design and production of health posters, publications and exhibits. In the 1960's, he was twice elected president of the Society of Federal Artists and Designers. From the mid 1950's, he traveled to Addis Ababa, Rome, Paris, Brussels and New Delhi to set up health expos he designed for the Public Health Service.
In 1972, he retired from government service to establish his own company, Artists and Writers Mutual. Retiring fully in 1985, he moved to West Palm Beach, FL. He served on the board of directors of his co-op apartment building for nine years and was twice elected president.
A long time member and daily attendant of services at Temple Beth El in West Palm Beach, he served as president of The Men's Club for five terms and was vice chairman of it's Ritual Committee for many years.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Jean Lutins Wiener of Rockville, MD and his niece, Michelle Tobias of Matawan, NJ, as well as five nephews throughout the U.S. and Israel. Services to be held Monday, 10 a.m. at Temple Beth El. Donations may be made to Temple Beth El, 2815 N. Flagler Dr., West Palm Beach, FL.
