HERBERT MERCHANT Obituary

HERBERT ARTHUR MERCHANT
Herbert Arthur Merchant, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, died peacefully at home on December 5, 2018, after a 24-year battle with multiple-myeloma. Born October 13, 1924, he was a lifelong Washingtonian and ran his own contracting business for over 50 years. Herb played trombone for the Roosevelt High School Marching Band and for his beloved Redskins. A former World War II Marine, Herb loved his country as passionately as he loved golf, bowling and his family. He died knowing he was loved by his wife of 74 years, Lois (nee Henderson) and his children, Cheryl West, Jim (Barbara), Susan (Alex Shuford), and Mary Robin Fortkort. He was adored by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A service will be held at Great Falls United Methodist Church, 10100 Georgetown Pk., Great Falls, VA Monday, December 10 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pk., Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850 or the USO, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077. Arrangements by Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home.
