So sorry to read about James Gasser´s passing. I knew Mr. Gasser for about 8 months, when I worked on the President´s Commission on Americans Outdoors, as the Receptionist/Office Assistant. I had lost my mother a year before, and took the temporary government job with PCAO when I felt ready for a change. It was the first "real" job I took after college-9 to 5, riding the metro-so it was exciting for me, and I learned a lot from Mr. Gasser and many others in that office. I wish I had stayed in touch with Mr. Gasser. It sounds like he had a wonderful life, filled with exciting career phases and wonderful travel, and a loving relationship. What more can one ask of life, really?
May he rest in peace with his husband.

Jim and Greg were cherished friends and colleagues to Shelley, I and dearest uncles to our twin girls. We first met at the Presidio of San Francisco Office and Golden Gate with NPS in 1995, and later resparked our friendship, following our move to DC. When we first arrived here in 2010 they introduced us to their Capital City that they loved so much, with many memorable dinners at their home on Upton. Jim always was honest, funny, razor sharp wit, matched by Greg, reflecting on our times and life´s foibles. I would often drop into Jim´s office at Interior to chat while he was pulling together ann event for NPS leadership in some far flung venue - full of grace as the hectic pace of government whirled around him. I will never forget these two. Their memory is a blessing.

Their dinners were legendary, the conversations full of history and their hospitality was of royal status. They will always hold a place in our hearts. But, most importantly they showed our adolescent daughter what love is, no matter the make up of the family. Forever thankful for having them be in our lives. Katherine Nadeau and family

So sorry to learn of Jim's death. I worked with (for) him on many conferences, and he could keep a thousand details straight. And do it with a fine sense of humor and careful candor. He was one of a kind at work, and an exceptional host (with Gregg) at home.

I'm missing Jim already. He was a dear and kind person. He and Gregg kept me laughing with their humor. I still have all the post cards they sent to me during their world travel, I made a collage of them which I will cherish. Gregg shared many of his great recipes and I cherish everyone. I think of Jim and Gregg often as I prepare the Cranberry/Blueberry muffins, and the Asparagus wrapped in Filo dough. They are big hits with my family and friends. Rest in Paradise, Jim. I Love you!
