JOHN CARL WERREN
JOHN CARL WERREN of Bedford, PA died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, PA. He was born in Blue Mounds, WI September 9, 1920 to Gottleib and Marie Werren.
John graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1942 where he was a member of the University Boxing Team and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After college, he joined the Navy. As commander of a LST, he made 92 trips across the English Channel carrying troops and tanks during the Normandy Invansion. He was recalled to service during the Korean War. After retiring from the Navy, he joined the Food and Drug Administration and retired from Government Service in 1988. After retirement, he moved to Bedford, PA where he was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and served Past President of the VFW as well as the Kiwanis Club.
He leaves behind his wife, Sarah; children, Diana Anderson, wife of Kristan, Livermore, CA, Cynthia Dunigan, Mt. Airy, MD, John H., Rochester, NY, Ann Arnold, wife of Scott, Ellicott City, MD and many grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Fritz and sister Hedwig of Madison, WI and brother Ernest of Silverthorne, CO. He was preceded in death by his brother William and his parents.
A private memorial service will be held with the family in Bedford, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Johns Hopkins.
