Lawrence King Obituary

KING Capt. LAWRENCE M. KING, JR., M.D. USN (Ret.), Age 80 Died December 20, 2008, at his home in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Born in Urania, LA, Dr. King served the US Navy for 21 years, retiring as Chief of Ophthalmology at National Naval Medical Center in 1974. For outstanding service to his country he was awarded the Legion of Merit. After entering private practice in Bethesda, MD with Retina Consultants, PC, Dr. King continued work started in the Navy of providing eye care and training to local doctors in developing countries. Through his affiliation with The International Eye Foundation and Volunteer Eye Surgeons International, he worked in 15 countries, most significantly in Ethiopia, Egypt, and Honduras. At the time of his death he was engaged with training doctors in Afganistan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 14 at 10 a.m. Please enter Arlington National Cemetery through the Memorial Gate.
