I met Lee when I joined the Sidwell Friends Upper School faculty in the fall of 1977. While our paths seldom intersected, I recall him as an unfailingly cordial and cheerful presence ,the sort of colleague who always took the time to ask about one's life and work. My deepest sympathies to Lee's family for their loss. He is missed and remembered fondly.

I remember Mr. Macvaugh walking Ashley in her carriage up the alley behind our Van Ness st. Home ,he was accompanied by faithful Triton! Triton kept us away from the baby but Mr. Macvaugh proudly welcomed our oohs and ahhs.
He also taught my brother tennis lessons up at Sidwell.
My family left Washington in mid 1970s, but after Dugan was born.
Deepest condolences to both of his kids.

I well remember learning Modern European history with Mr. MacVaugh my senior year at Sidwell Friends School. He was an engaging and energizing teacher, and a friend to many students, myself included. He will be misssed

Ashley, I remember your dad so well, from the days he taught at Sidwell Friends and when you were a student in my classroom. A wonderful iconoclastic teacher with a great sense of humor. And I know how much he adored you. Sending condolences and holding Lee´s memory in the light.

Lee MacVaugh taught several of the History classes that I took when I was a student at Sidwell Friends School (cica 1972). One of the more memorable activities was a visit to the Lorton Reformatory Youth Center. This was the only time in my life that I visited a prison and it left a lasting impression on me. Thank you, Lee MacVaugh for your great teaching.
