SARAFIAN MARO SARAFIAN, M.D. Dr. Maro Sarafian, Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Sibley Hospital, formerly residing in Washington, D.C passed away on April 24, 2018 in Michigan, after a tough battle with cancer. Maro was born of Armenian descent to Osep and Nadya Sarafian on November 21, 1968 in Istanbul Turkey. Her family moved to Birmingham, Michigan when she was 12. She was valedictorian at Alex Manoogian High School in Southfield, MI. She received a BA from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1990, and she graduated from Wayne State Medical School, MI, in 1994. She specialized in obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where she was also chief resident. In 1998, Dr. Sarafian joined Sibley Memorial Hospital and the Foxhall OBGYN Associates, also functioning as managing partner from 2013 to 2017. She was on the Sibley Memorial Intensive Care Unit and the Ob/Gyn Quality Assurance Committees from 2002 to 2017. Dr Sarafian delivered a generation of healthy babies for over twenty years. She was an attentive, astute, and resolute doctor, admired and beloved by her patients. Her colleagues thought highly of her and voted her to The Washingtonian's Best Doctors List from 2007 to 2017. Maro's ever-present radiant smile lit up faces and souls wherever she went. Everybody felt she emanated competence, reassurance and kindness. She had phenomenal fortitude and energy, and took pleasure in doing the right thing. Effortlessly positive and efficient, Maro successfully juggled active community life in the DC area, full time medical practice, managing the partnership and lovingly raising three great children with unfettered love and fierce attention to detail. Alec (14), Lia (12) and Andrew (9) were always at the center of her happiness. She volunteered in the activities of their schools, and she planned countless weekend trips and family vacations throughout the world. She left them a lifetime's worth of warm and inspirational memories. Maro was the devoted wife of Darell Meyer, beloved sister Nora and her husband Raffi Manoukian, and of her brother Garen and his wife Rita Yeretsian. She was the cherished daughter of Mr. and Dr. Sarafian, and the caring aunt for six nieces and nephews. She was an amazing friend to many. Maro,
My sweet friend. I thought about you today and I can't believe it will be 7 years this April. You were an amazing friend all through high school and beyond. You were brilliant in school and you took that brilliance to a higher level and a higher calling. I am so proud of you and the family you raised. Rest in peace my dear friend. Beloved Dr. Sarafian was my doctor who help me to carry and deliver my two children. She was not only an exceptional super knowledgeable doctor, but also naturally super caring and incredible human being. It is 6 years since she left this world, but I still cherish her in my memories and miss her very much. I hope her lovely children are doing well, so the dearest Maro would like to see them. Let her soul rest in peace in the heaven! Much-much love!

Dear Maro, my prayers and my thoughts will be always with you and with your family. I will keep your smile, our good memories when we were young deep in my heart.

My dear Nora, I can't find the words to explain my sorrow. The only thing that I can tell you is that I am sure your strong love for your sister will give you the strength in order to continue your life. I guess and I hope, you will be present for your nephews and your niece. I send you many hugs my dear friend.

Dear Garen, Hovsep Dayday and Nadin Tantig, it's very difficult to tell you anything. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I love you all and you are missing me a lot...

With many compassion

I am so sad to hear this news. Maro was my OB/GYN for years. SO brilliant, kind, and FUNNY. She was someone I really trusted with my health and my body but also someone I could imagine being friends with. I just cannot believe she is gone. Her patients will miss her so much. I cannot imagine what her kids are going through and hope they are given lots of love and support from what I imagine is a very broad network of friends and family.

I met Dr. Sarafian right after she had her last beautiful baby. She delivered both of my children and I was hoping that she would deliver the third (as she was certainly encouraging me, in my old age, to have another.) She was supportive to me after my mother passed away and I'll never forget that. She was the best doctor I've ever had and she will be dearly missed. Condolences to her family and loved ones.

I met you for the first time when I was scared over a potential diagnosis that had me reelingnot helping my innate fear of everything-related-to-doctors. You calmly ushered me into your office, read through everything, and assured me I would be okay. And you were right. Since then, I never left your office without laughing, feeling as if I had just checked in with not only my doctor, but also my friend. Thank you, always. May you Rest In Peace.

I am one of the many mothers that Dr. Sarafian guided through pregnancy and childbirth. She delivered my two daughters, now ages 14 and 12 and was pregnant with her own daughter through part of that time! This is a tremendous loss for her family and the DC community of moms and future moms. My sympathies to her loved ones.
