MARSHA TAYLOR-TYREE Obituary

TAYLOR-TYREE MARSHA LYNN TAYLOR-TYREE On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, Marsha Lynn Taylor-Tyree passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Baltimore, MD. She had lived with and managed the survival of radiation treatment for cancer for more than twenty years before succumbing to pneumonia. She was 66. Marsha was born January 29, 1951 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the fifth of eight children to Charles Taylor and Beatrice Crawford. A devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Dr. Gill Taylor-Tyree Sr., to whom she was married for 44 years; her two sons, Gill Tatman-Tyree Jr. Major, US Army and Garon Taylor-Tyree, Major, US Marine Corps; three grandchildren and numerous godchildren. A 1969 graduate of E.C. Glass High School, Marsha graduated Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, Class of 1973. It was there that she met her future husband, a student at Amherst College in the neighboring town. They were married January 19, 1973 and both moved to New York to attend Rochester University where Marsha received a Master of Arts in Education. Marsha spent time teaching before the birth of her children. A dedicated Navy Spouse, she lived in Pensacola, FL, Oakland, CA, Iwakuni, Japan, and Lemoore, CA before Gill Sr.'s retirement from Active Duty. The family then moved to and settled in Gettysburg, PA in 1986. More recently, Marsha made her home in Baltimore, MD where she and her husband moved in 2001. She will be lovingly remembered for her uniquely resilient personality and love of the arts, and missed as a selfless, compassionate, and insightful volunteer for organizations such as the Pennsylvania Prison Society, Survivors Inc, the League of Women Voters, and the annual Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Committee. Marsha's life will be celebrated this Saturday, April 22 at 5 p.m. in a service at Community Funeral Home, 909 Fifth St., Lynchburg, VA 24504. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made "in honor of Marsha Taylor-Tyree" to Survivors, Inc, a domestic violence services center, P.O. Greetings, Gil. Isheri Milan informed me of the passing of Marsha only a few days ago. I searched the web and discovered more details which directed me here. So many years have passed since we have seen or communicated with each other. [44!] Death separates and reunites. I honor the bravery of Marsha's journey and share the sadness of her death. A noticeable number of our friends and acquaintances are passing. I'm experiencing the inevitability of sadness as a lovely companion and in it's dept the comfort of healing. I wish you comfort and peace, Sir Gil. -Chuck Soul ('74)

We are so sorry for your family's loss. We are friends of Ann & Gill (our daughter Ari was in kindergarten with Charlotte) and had the opportunity to meet Marsha on one occasion, and she was so delightful. May God wrap His arms of love around you, comfort you, and bring you peace and strength through this very difficult time.
