MICHAEL FAYAD Obituary

MICHAEL L. FAYAD
Michael Louis Fayad of McLean, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 76 on Saturday May 29, 2021. Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan to Julia and Ed Fayad. He graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1970. He went on to a legal career focused primarily on criminal law in the Washington DC area starting with the Georgetown Prettyman Program in 1970. He joined the DC Public Defenders Office in 1972. After a year of teaching at American University School of Law, Michael joined the US Department of Justice - first as a trial attorney and then as Chief of the Defense Procurement Fraud Unit. In 1989, he joined the private sector as a partner at McKenna & Cuneo and then Greenberg Traurig. Michael's noteworthy legal accomplishments over his career pale in comparison to his role as a father and friend of many. He was loved by his two children, Mike and Liz, and spent their childhoods cheering them on in ice hockey rinks and on lacrosse fields up and down the Eastern seaboard. Michael was a bon vivant. He was as fine of a home chef as many would ever see - and he loved to share wonderful meals with those who were lucky enough to be close to him. Later in life he developed an interest in horses and the Western United States. We don't know if his lawyering skills will be needed on his new journey, but we hope he finds lots of friends and family to cook for and that he's riding the range - feeling the wind in his face and his freedom on the back of a horse. His wife of 46 years, Libby Fayad, and his children, daughter Liz Fayad and her partner Jonathan Tilles, and son Mike and his wife Pam Fayad, survived Michael. He will be missed by countless friends whom he helped celebrate the good times and make it though the bad. There will be a Celebration of Michael's Life on Wednesday June 23, 2021. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena, 3779 Ely Place SE, Washington DC 20019, or the charity of your choice.

I met Michael when he came to his cousin (Vince) and my wedding. As soon as I saw him I knew he was a relative of Vince's - they could have passed for brothers. This photo is of Michael and my Mom who always asked about Michael. She remembered him being a nice person and fun to be around.
