Patrick Francis Scott

1969 - 2024

Patrick Scott, an attorney with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, died on June 21, 2024. His death ended a struggle of more than 2 years with appendiceal cancer. Pat was born at Georgetown University Hospital on February 6, 1969 to Michael Scott and Carol Jobin Scott.
Pat is survived and mourned by his loving family -- spouse, Elizabeth Norico Scott, children Ryan, Aidan and Grace, his parents, his beloved sister, Mary Ryan Scott (Boulder Colorado), his uncle John Scott (Maitland, Florida) along with an immense clan, of Ryans, Jobins, and Noricos, as well as literally thousands of loving friends.

The only burden of having his wide network of the many who will miss him was that he could seldom finish a meal anywhere in Washington without suddenly encountering yet another friend to discuss sports, politics, alumni activities or family. His life was lived primarily in Washington, DC, which he truly loved from his earliest days, when he would greet everyone who passed while he played as a toddler in his front yard, becoming known by age 3 as the Mayor of S Street.

He continued lifelong relationships with alumni from Holy Trinity Elementary School and his deeply loved high school alma mater Gonzaga College High School, along with university and law school alumni, as well as teammates from 10 seasons with the Capitol Boys Hockey Club.

Pat did venture from Washington to live in Milwaukee at Marquette University, graduating in the class of 1991, but including 1 semester in a study-abroad program at Loyola University in Rome Italy. During law school, he lived in De Kalb, Illinois, graduating with his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Northern Illinois University. He lived in New York for a summer while doing an internship at the United Nations; another internship -- in Washington -- was with the Office of Senator Ron Wyden (Oregon). Perhaps, most memorably, between college and law school he spent a year in Vail Colorado in a house full of fellow Marquette alumni ski-bums.

Returning to Washington after law school, Pat continued legal studies, receiving a Master of Laws in Banking & Finance from Georgetown University Law School. That was done while also working for the DC Council in the Office of Council Member Charlene Drew Jarvis. It was a most happy and rewarding experience because of the friends that he made there and for the opportunity to contribute to development of his beloved hometown.

All that was the perfect background for his eventual career as an attorney with the Securities & Exchange Commission, a position in which he took extraordinary pride and which he found extraordinarily rewarding both in his work as well as in his relationships with its talented and dedicated staff.

As fulfilling as those aspects of his life were, none surpassed the joy and pride that he derived from his family. He had the immeasurable satisfaction of seeing his darling Gracie become a talented artist, soccer team points leader, and lovely young lady, and the great reward of seeing both his boys enter Gonzaga --Ryan in track meets football and piano recitals, Aidan a starting catcher on the baseball team, and both playing Gonzaga hockey – the sport in which their Dad coached them at Rockville Arena for years.

The last and deepest feeling for Pat will have been through his most wonderful wife, Beth, who lovingly cared for him from the honeymoon in Hawaii to her heroic blessed care in his final days.

Those who knew and loved Pat are deeply grateful for the exceptional dedication and care given by the physicians, nurses, technicians and staff at Healwell, Capital Caring Hospice, the Lombardi Cancer Center as well as all at Georgetown University Hospital. There are far too many to name here, but, in particular Dr. Ihemelandu and Dr. Weinberg to receive that deep gratitude on behalf of all.
