Peter Moskel Obituary

MOSKEL PETER JAMES MOSKEL On Good Friday, 21 March 2008, Jim Moskel of Arlington, VA, died. He was 55 years old. Born July 5 1952 in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, Jim was the second son of Peter and Margaret Moskel who preceded him in death in 1992 and 2008 respectively. He is survived by a brother, Edward Moskel of North Carolina. Jim was educated at St. Fidelis High School in Herman, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1970. He continued his seminary education at St. Fidelis College for two years before going to the novitiate at St. Conrad‘s Friary in Annapolis, Maryland. He completed his undergraduate degree back in Herman at St. Fidelis. In 1974 Jim went on to the Capuchin College in Washington, DC where he received a masters degree in theology and joined the monastery. In 1976 Jim left the Capuchins and worked as an Executive Assistant for the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL) where Latin liturgical texts are translated into English for use in the Catholic liturgy throughout the English-speaking world. After three years at ICEL Jim went on to several other administrative jobs in the Washington, DC area including the Association of Builders and Contractors who were working with the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation for the redevelopment of “America‘s Main Street” in downtown Washington. Jim started with the Hertz Corporation in March 1986 in Alexandria, VA. In 1988 he relocated to the Chicago office as an Area Manager. In early 1991, Jim was promoted to Director of Group Sales and was again relocated to the Alexandria, VA office, where he was responsible for the sales efforts of four area managers, for Association, Bank and Group sales. Jim left Hertz in 2004. After Jim‘s father died in 1992, he and his mother, Mutsie, as he fondly referred to her, traveled together throughout the world to places that she had never dared dream of going to. His devotion to her lasted beyond her final breath. In the last months of his life, Jim battled with cancer, which gained speed following his mother‘s death in January of this year. He was aided in his own care by his long time physician and especially in the final weeks by Montgomery Hospice, caring friends, and Bill and Catherine Mooney who created a loving environment in their home for his final journey. A private memorial service is being held today, April 26. Donations may be made in Jim‘s name to Test Positive Aware Network, 5537 N. Broadway Street, Chicago, IL 60640 or Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.

Jim and I became friends almost instantly when he arrived in the Chicago Hertz office. Eventually he was like a daytime son to me. I even ventured into the realm of "working for him" and despite all he remained a very special human being and one I will always remember. It was good to know him. He was a good son and friend; I always admired his care and love for his Mom. Peace Jim , Loving thoughts, Jean
