Awe, I was just telling a friend about this fascinating fella who took an adventurous leap out of an airplane at 80 years of age and had about 60 years of fascinating stories to tell. I didn't know Peter for long, but he was definitely a man to remember. Honestly, I loved every story he told me and I loved his political thoughts, especially those on foreign policy. Peter was articulate, sassy and got me interested in studying our last 100 years of history again with a new perspective. Thank you, Peter, for the inspiration. Thinking of Cait and the kitties at this sad time.

I didn't realize my Uncle Peter was the real life model for Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun.
Kidding, not kidding. I was so blessed to be able to spend some time with him
recently, telling stories, reading and laughing at farside cartoons, drinking
root beer floats, and hanging out with his cat Kookla at the Veterans Home in
Chippewa Falls where he spent his last few months. I'm so grateful to my Aunt
Cait for getting me out there to visit and to Hospice for making his final weeks
on Earth as comfortable as possible, under the circumstances. His passing was
peaceful, three days after his 81st birthday. For his 80th birthday he jumped out of a plane. He lived life to the fullest and was smart, wise, funny, cynical, and fun loving right to the end. I will miss him dearly.
