Rebecca Jane Trumbo Bates

Rebecca Jane Trumbo Bates "Beckie" was born to the late George Cleveland Trumbo Jr. and Josie Irene Dolly Trumbo of Onego, WV on November 25, 1947. Surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully entered into rest in her Vienna, VA home on March 19, 2022.

Beckie graduated from West Virginia University and completed her graduate degree at the University of Maryland. She met her husband, Glen Bates, in Washington, D.C., and they began to travel the world together. They enjoyed many global excursions as a couple and with their family. After retiring from a career in the federal government, she continued her passion for travel. Planning her next trip and listening to others' stories of travel gave her great pleasure. In retirement she became a licensed Washington D.C. tour guide who delighted in sharing her knowledge and little-known facts about the nation's capital.

She was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church, where she cherished the Christian fellowship of her Bible Study and Book Club communities. She felt closest to God in the garden, and had a green thumb which would have made her agricultural ancestors proud. She was a past president of the local chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, and a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides. Her life was richly blessed by a group of dear and treasured friends. Always offering to lend an ear or hand, she leaves a beautiful legacy of a loving, kind, generous and gregarious spirit.

Beckie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Glen Bates; her daughter, Glenda Bates and partner Poh Soon Teng; her son George Bates and wife Brittany Bates; her grandsons Theo and Nolan; and her sister Jo Jordan and husband Bob Jordan. Beckie was devoted to her family and happiest when her family was gathered around her table.

Memorial service will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St. NE, Vienna, VA on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vienna Presbyterian Church or a church of choice.

Becky and I were in the same tour guide training class. We shared the challenges and rewards of sharing our nation´s capital with visiting tour groups. She was always a delight to work with. Rest In Peace Becky.
