ROBERT SHAFTER Baxter

On Thursday, July 6, 2023, Robert transitioned while undergoing a medical procedure. He has been in declining health for several years. He leaves to mourn this loss: his sons Robert Baxter (Vicky) of Ft. Washington, MD and Ricky Veasey of Ft. Washington, MD; grandchildren Robert Baxter II, Kita Baxter, Tammy Baxter, Charisse Hollis, Dominique Hall, and Kevin Johnson; his sister Ouida Stewart Jones (Robert) of Pensacola, FL and brother Paul Stewart, Jr (Rachel) of St. Petersburg, FL.

Robert was born on June 17, 1939, in Winnsboro, SC to the late Arwilda T. Richardson (nee Baxter) and the late Paul Stewart, Sr. He retired from the AFL-CIO where he had worked for many years and had many friends. He met and married Gloria Baxter (nee Hebb) in Washington, DC and though divorced they remained steadfast friends until her death in December 2019.

Robert decided to forego a funeral or memorial service and instead arranged to donate his body to George Washington University for medical research. Due to his love of animals, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC https://www.humanerescuealliance.org/check-or-cash-gift.

Love you Slim. I will always remember the lessons learned from you while I was growing up here in Washington DC. You showed me how to be the best father, husband and man I can possibly be.
