ROBERT BEEBE Obituary

ROBERT A. BEEBE
Robert A. Beebe who lived in Germantown, Maryland and was born in Scranton, PA in 1938, died peacefully at home on Saturday June 19, 2021. After graduating from Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service in 1961, he completed a Masters in Linguistics at Fordham University. After marrying, he relocated to Berkeley, California, and taught Spanish in public schools. In 1970, he moved with his family to Cuba and taught English at the University of Havana. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1983, Bob settled in Montgomery County, Maryland and taught Spanish at Robert Frost Middle School, part of the Montgomery County Public School System, from which he retired in 2005. He travelled extensively, devoured mystery novels and perfected the art of the nap. Bob was master at solving WAPO crossword puzzles. In 2014, Bob became a fromager in Wegman's Old World Cheese department, where he was loved by all. Bob is survived by his daughter, Lorca Lilia Beebe-Diaz, a teacher in the Prince George's County school system; his son, Robert Pierre Beebe-Diaz and daughter in law, Maria Delatorre Diaz and grandchildren Bobby and Leanna, of El Sobrante, California; his two sisters, Anne Ruvane of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Alice Ruffing of New Paltz, NY, and their families; and John and Nini Maisto of Washington D.C. and their extended family. Bob was a practicing Catholic who put his faith into action, quietly, simply, and daily. Bob donated his body to the Maryland Anatomy Board, continuing his commitment to public education, even in death. His remains, placed with others who donated their body to science, will be commemorated in an annual ceremony. In lieu of a funeral, a memorial mass will be held at Mother Seton parish in Germantown on October 22, 2021 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall.

On a vacation in Mexico with my wife, I surprised myself by remembering a lot of the Spanish that I learned at Frost Middle School so many years ago (early 90s.) Suddenly, memories of Mr. Beebe came flooding back. He used to call me "Geofredo," his version of Jeffrey. I loved his classes.
I just looked him up online I hopes of reaching out to him, only to find this obituary. I´m sorry I didn´t get to tell him myself, but he left a lasting memory with me. RIP, Mr. Beebe.

Mr. Beebe, my Spanish teacher at Frost Junior High, was a great influence in my life. His energy and excitement for learning was amazing, rewarding us students with Jolly Ranchers (he called them Rancheros Alegres) during games of "Atake de Corazon"...he will not be forgotten. Because of him, I pursued extensive study in Spanish, moving to San Antonio to continue my studies in college. Many thanks to Mr. Beebe, and God speed. My condolences to your family.

My condolences to Lorca and Robert during this difficult time. The last time I saw Bob was a few months back when I was visiting my mother, Sandy. May Bob rest in Him. He was a good man and cracked lots of corny jokes. He will be missed by all.
God Bless,
Dawn & Art Reid

My condolences to your family during this difficult time.
It was always a pleasure to see Bob in the community or to hear
his recommendations while he was at Wegman´s.

Dear Lorca and family, I am so sorry to hear this news. As your father told me when my mother passed away, she is in a better place. I know your father is in a much better place. He is there with his parent and family, our friends Arlene and Mary Virginia, Bob Barthe and more. Your father was always kind to me even in my darkest time. I look forward to seeing him again when I one day cross over. May God bless you Bob, Lorca, Pierre and family. Blessings Rich, aka: Woody
