Dear Mrs. Haldane,
You may not remember me, but my father, then Major Tom Stoy, was the IG for 1st ID (FWD) in Goeppingen when General Haldane was the Commander there. I was all of 14 years old back then. I remember vividly how admiringly my father spoke about your husband and how much he enjoyed working for him. Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss. You have lost a wonderful husband and the country a great soldier.

How nice of the Washington Post to run a story on General's career. I recall in college in Seattle in the mid -late 1960s, no such articles would have been run. I suspect that General Haldane's character, as well as the passage of time, were jointly responsible for this coverage.
