Robert J. Kozman

KOZMAN ROBERT J. KOZMAN Commander, US Navy (Ret.) Robert J. Kozman, age 86, a retired Navy Commander and intelligence specialist, died February 19, 2007 at home of heart failure. CDR Kozman was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1921 where he graduated from West Tech High School in 1939. He began his naval career in November 1941 at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Soon thereafter he was assigned to the office of the Naval AttachC), Cairo, Egypt. He had further duties in Beirut, Lebanon, and Massawa, Eritrea. In 1944 and 1945 he was assigned to the Naval Observer office in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was then transferred to the office of the Naval AttachC), Quito, Ecuador, where he met and married Dorothy Stimson, an American in the Military AttachC) office. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Tufts University, Medford, MA. on the GI Bill. He graduated with a degree in economics in 1949. He rejoined the Navy as a Lieutenant (jg) (Intelligence) in 1951 and served in Washington, D.C., with subsequent tours of duty in Japan, Alaska, Philippines, Seventh Fleet, London, England, and Washington, D.C., where he retired in 1970. After retirement he worked as an intelligence consultant until his first heart attack and by-pass surgery in 1979. In 1995 he had a second, re-do by-pass operation. He served for nine years as an accredited Mended Hearts visitor. He was a member of the Retired Officers' Association, the American Legion, the Naval Intelligence Professionals, and the Army-Navy Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of 63 years and two children, Robert J. Kozman, Jr. of Portsmouth, NH and Shelley L. Kozman of Fredericksburg, VA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on May 2, 2008 at Arlington National Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the Administration Building at 12:30 p.m. prior to the committal service.
