SEARS Robert Steven Sears April 24, 1949 - May 14, 2016 Robert S. Sears, DDS "Bobby", 67, passed away at home on May 14, 2016 in Ashburn, Virginia. A pediatric dentist who trained at the Children''s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Bobby was a much-loved and well-known member of the Fairfax and Loudoun County community since establishing his practice here in 1978. Bobby was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 24, 1949. He received a full scholarship and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1971 before moving on to dental school at University of Maryland. After finishing his general dentistry and pediatric specialty training at the Children''s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 1978, Bobby began his practice in Northern Virginia. He was licensed by the State Boards of Dentistry in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York, and was recognized as a Diplomate by the American Board of Special Care Dentistry, and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He served as section Chief of oral surgery at the Reston Hospital Center, and was on staff at Inova Fairfax and Inova Fair Oaks hospitals. To complement his practice with patients, Bobby held a number of academic positions over the course of his career, most recently at Montefiore Hospital in NYC, and previously at Georgetown University. To those who knew him well and to those who only met him once, it was clear that he was a special man. He made everyone feel at ease and his sense of humor was sure to make you laugh or at least roll your eyes. His warm and open nature ensured he made quick, but deep connections with people far and wide. He was passionate about his family, and in his spare time he loved music, reading and American history. He is survived by his wife Patricia Sears, his daughters, Kara Carter (Dene), Maura Sears and Seana Sears, and his sisters, Lynn Sears and Laurie Sears. Funeral services will be performed at Christ the Redeemer, 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, (Route 7) Sterling, VA on June 10 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family will announce at the services a special charity they wish to have donations presented to in the memory of Robert S.
