Ronald J. Smith (Age 79)

Ronald J. Smith of Siver Spring, MD died on September 8, 2023. Ron had been experiencing some heart complications but continued living a very active and exciting life right up until it was his time to join the recently deceased love-of-his-life, Sharie. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Cara Rynning, her husband, Sean Rynning, his adoring grandchildren, Hugh and Elizabeth Rynning, and his brother, Michael Smith. Ron was born on October 3, 1943 in Washington, DC to Joesph and Mary Jane Smith. He lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, serving in the US Air Force and aboard US Navy research vessels as a scientist. In 1983, Ron met the woman of his dreams, Sharon Brown, and quickly married her in 1984. They brought their beloved daughter, Cara, into this world and settled in Silver Spring, MD, where Ron continued his career in public service at NOAA and the National Weather Service. Ron loved socializing with his friends, neighbors, and family, playing tennis, listening to oldies, and spending time at the beach with his grandchildren, who knew him as "Granddaddy". Ron will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends. A visitation will be held on September 28, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home at 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20904. The internment will follow at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery, 3001 Spencerville Road, Burtonsville, MD 20866.

This month we start up seasonal tennis. It's when Ron automatically geared up and coordinated tennis play for the entire winter for a bunch of elderly tennis players -Something he had been doing since the 1990s! I'm constantly thinking of my friend Ron and how much I miss his enthusiastic happy personality. He was tennis centric like I am. We played and talked for hours about the sport. We just couldn't imagine a life without tennis. He's with my memories forever. I miss my friend and I know he's now in a better place. And, he's with Sharie, his partner for life who he loved sooo much. Miss you Ron. RIP
