I had the pleasure of knowing Rufus during the last 2 years of his life. He attended the Bible study at Leewood Healthcare Center, where I volunteered as pianist. His bold full voice was distinct, and when I complimented his singing of the old church hymns (especially his favorite "Amazing Grace," Rufus would say, "A little gravelly, but not bad for a 90-year old." Rufus had a distinguished air about him, and was quite knowledgeable about history and politics, still watching the History Channel and reading biographies. He told me I could call him "Mr. Esquire." Though he proudly wore his Veteran's ball cap, Rufus only spoke once to me about his war time service, saying that he saw more than he ever wanted to recall as a sharp shooter.
I believe Rufus would want everyone to know that Jesus is the only way to peace with God and happiness in this life and the life to come.
I cannot help but smile when I look at his picture. I will miss this special man.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family for their lost. May they remain strong as a family and find comfort and peace in our heavenly father. Romans 15:13
