SUSAN SLOAN Obituary

SLOAN SUSAN RADCLIFFE SLOAN Susan Radcliffe Sloan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 1, 2016. Born in Cleveland, OH on April 3, 1955, Susan lived a life of dignity and class, which she shared with her beloved husband, Douglas Sloan for over 25 years. She warmly touched the lives of all who met her and had a smile that would light up the room. She attended Ohio State University where she was on the synchronized swimming team and graduated SUNY Oneonta in 1977. She completed graduate coursework in Nutrition Science and Education at Drexel University. Her career included work as a Licensed Registered Dietitian, devoted to direct patient care for 23 years at several major hospital centers in the area. For the next 17 years of her professional career, Susan was a Clinical Trial manager and team member for oncology research at the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University and several large biotech and pharmaceutical companies. She was the recipient of numerous accreditations and awards, co-author of a manual on nutrition and was cited in The Complete Cancer Survival Guide. She enjoyed volunteer work with the Special Olympics, cooking, entertaining, playing golf and cards, her kitties, watching OSU Football, the O's, the outdoors, all four seasons, flowers, educating and helping others and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Sloan of Frederick, MD; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Annie Radcliffe of Bath, OH; in-laws, Lori and Scott VanZanten of Annapolis, MD and Stephen and Anne Sloan of Ft. Myers, FL. In addition, Susan's life was enriched by a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Radcliffe of Carolina Shores, NC and parents-in-law, James and Geraldine Sloan of Rockville, MD. A private celebration of Susan's life with her family is being held in April. Susan fought a brave battle for seven months with pancreatic cancer, and she asked that any donations be given to the American Cancer Society (donate3.cancer.org).

We mourn with you, Doug. Sue was an amazing person. When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live. - Stuart Scott
