WELDON DWAYNE BURSON "Burt"  1938 - 2018  
Weldon "Burt" Burson peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 3, 2018. He leaves behind his two daughters, Patricia and Diana Burson, his grandchildren Ben and Lily Tunison, his fiancée Patricia Ellis, and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by Marcela Burson, his wife of 50 years. Originally from Texas, Burt attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his BA and MA in History and Economics from Southern Methodist University. He began his career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia and Puerto Rico prior to joining the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in 1965. Throughout his 25 year career he served in various roles in foreign missions, including Economic Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission. He was stationed in Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, and Norway, and spent many months in Africa and Asia as a Department of State Inspector. During his retirement he served as President of the International Banknote Society and was inducted into the Society's Hall of Fame in 2014. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the COPD Discovery Fund in the Johns Hopkins Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine [secure.jhu.edu] (on the pulldown menu select "Other" and in the describe block, enter "COPD Discovery Fund") or the Peace Corps Colombia Country Fund [peacecorps.gov]. A memorial in celebration of his life will be held on May 4, 2018 at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC. Funeral arrangements were provided by Riverdale Park Crematory.
