LtCol Robert Benjamin "Bob" Wilson, USMC (Ret.), passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Chapel Hill, NC, at the age of 89. A proud Marine, Vietnam veteran, educator, and devoted family man, Bob's life was guided by service, honor, and compassion.

Born in Washington, D.C., Bob graduated from the University of Virginia in 1958 and served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his military career, he taught science and algebra in Onslow County Schools and later served as a counselor at Coastal Carolina Community College, continuing his mission of service through education.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Lorraine Wilson; his parents, Dora and Robert Wilson; and his sisters, Dora Beryl Deans and Nancy Long. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Dunn Wilson of New Bern, NC; his children, Robert Barry Wilson (Joanne) of Waynesville, NC, Susan Lorraine Idol of Rocky Mount, NC, and Wayne Lee Wilson (David P. Stratton) of Apex, NC; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday, August 3, from 4–6 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville, NC. A memorial service with military honors took place Monday, August 4 at 9 a.m., followed by interment at 10 a.m. at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
