Carol Nicholson Obituary
Carol was born on February 4th, 1943, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Stephen and Helen (Schenk) Nicholson. She was a 1961 graduate of Mt. Union High School, where she grew up. She was united in marriage to Marquis Canby on September 9th, 1962, and moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. They were later divorced.
Carol worked 25 years for the Black Hawk County Court House, in several departments, before retiring in 2005. Carol enjoyed playing games and taking trips with her friends, playing sports, and had a love for animals, especially strays.
Carol is survived by her children, Christine (Charles) Caira of Columbus, MI, Michael Canby of Mitchellville, Iowa, Darcy Canby of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren Keri Bielecki, Nicholas Caira, both from Richmond, MI, Leah Caira of Columbus, MI, Mackenzie Michael and Jacob Michael of Cedar Falls, Iowa; great grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel and Kiley of MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; Jerry, Lee, and Edwin Nicholson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 29th, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member.
Carol loved animals, and all her pets were strays. She was also very grateful for the loving care she received from Cedar Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Carol's name to the Cedar Bend Humane Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.

We have fond memories of going on walks in our neighborhood and getting to engage in chats with Carol. We were so sad to hear of her passing this past winter. We will miss her dearly and will especially think of her as warm weather arrives. Sending love & peace to her family.

Oh, dear Carol, you were a cherished classmate and so good in high school, playing basketball, singing and art work for the Monocle. I remember our times fondly, especially when your cousin Janet and I treated you to the movie, "A Summer Place," in Mt. Pleasant when you turned 16. You are and were a very special person.
