David Wesley Dorn

December 22, 1946 - January 25, 2025

URBANA - Following an extended illness, David Wesley Dorn, 78, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, Rochester, Minn.

Per David's wishes, private family services will be held. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family.

David was born December 22, 1946, in Dallas, Ore., the son of Wesley and Marjorie (Collister) Dorn. He graduated from Jesup High School in 1965. He also attended UNI and Upper Iowa College earning a degree in Industrial Technology. David proudly served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. On August 27, 1972, David was united in marriage to Jean Tomlinson at the Amity Presbyterian Church, rural Reinbeck. David was employed by John Deere for 30 years as a test mechanic, retiring in 2000.

In his leisure time, David loved "tinkering" with cars, nature, fishing, and teaching shop/industrial technology.

Left to cherish David's memory are his wife of 52 years, Jean of Urbana; son, Christopher (Etsuko) Dorn of Osaka, Japan; grandchildren, Liana and Kai Dorn of Osaka, Japan; sister, Georgine (Danny) Dodd of Independence; brother-in-law, John Kirk of Va.; uncle, Laurance Collister of Garden Grove, Calif.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews living throughout the USA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Donna and Valerie; and his three best "furry pals": Shadow, Sabbatha, and Koda.

So sorry to learn of Dave's recent passing. I knew him from John Deere and as a neighbor in Waterloo. Dave was always an interesting person to speak with who was not shy about sharing his opinions. Most often his thoughts were centered around fairness, decency and the common good rather than any selfish gain or glory for himself. This speaks volumes for the kind of person he was and the life he lived. May he rest in peace.
