LeRoy McGrew Obituary
Leroy graduated from ROVA high school in 1956 and attended Knox College in Galesburg, Il where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1960 and was inducted to Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his masters and doctoral degrees in Chemistry graduating from the University of Iowa in 1964.
He married his high school classmate and love of his life, Carol J. Brown of Oneida, Il in 1963 and they were blessed to have shared 60 years of marriage. LeRoy taught Chemistry at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for 13 years before moving to Cedar Falls, Iowa where he was Head of the chemistry department at the University of Northern Iowa for 15 years. Upon retirement he and Carol moved to Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, MO. He was active in the Unionville United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the men's group. Spending time with his family and grandchildren, fishing, boating, and watching wildlife at the lake brought him hours of pleasure.
Leroy was preceded in death by his son Leroy Andrew McGrew, his parents, and his parents-in-law Clark and Francis Brown, both of Oneida Il. LeRoy leaves his wife Carol (Brown) McGrew of Unionville MO, his son Clark (Lynette) McGrew with grandchildren Rylan & Zachary of Kahoka MO, his daughter Laura McGrew (Scott Gobber) with granddaughter Lucia Gobber of Kansas City, MO, his daughter-in-law Savanna Alliband-McGrew with grandchildren Addison and Ansel of Livermore, CA and a sister Ann Gray (Dave) of Auburn Hills, Michigan.
We are thankful for the love he gave us and the love we could share with him.
Funeral services will be Friday August 11th, 3:00pm at United Methodist Church Unionville, MO with visitation from 2:00-3:00. Graveside service and interment will be 3:00 pm Saturday August 12th, at the Altona Cemetery, Altona IL.
In leu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Unionville United Methodist Church or the McGrew Faculty

Roy was my mentor and friend ever since he hired me at UNI in 1986. Even after retirement I would receive notice of one of our impending "organic division meetings". We would solve most of the world problems at these gatherings. It was an honor to work with him.

Carole and I send our condolences to Carol and the family. Roy was a good friend and colleague as well as an excellent classroom teacher. We all enjoyed his dry wit and wonderful sense of humor. His service as department head was exemplary and helped make our department one of the strongest in the university. He will be missed.
