Edgar Meyer Obituary

Dr. Edgar Meyer
June 13, 1926 - April 12, 2025
Dr. Edgar Meyer peacefully passed with his loving family at his side, on April 12, 2025, at his home.
Edgar Arthur Meyer was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 13, 1926, to Herbert and Edith Meyer.
He was raised by loving parents on a typical Iowa farm, along with two sisters and one brother. He attended a neighborhood one-room school until the ninth grade, then to Davenport schools. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Navy ROTC at DePauw University for pre-med. After those two years, he transferred into the Army Medical ROTC at University of Iowa, where he met Jean Dawson. They married on August 22, 1948. He graduated from UI in 1950, and they moved to St Louis, Mo. for a two-year internship. Then they were stationed in Stuttgart and Munich Germany for two more years. While there they had wonderful travels, touring much of Europe and learning to snow ski.
After his discharge from the Army, they moved to the Dalles, OR where he was part of a family practice office. My parents loved the beauty of the West; it was what they called here from the Midwest. On a car drive to Washington, they discovered Cashmere and that was their next move in 1955. He had his office in Cashmere until he retired. They always loved the mountains and grandeur of our area. They stayed in the same house, with the same home phone number until my dad's passing. Jean passed away on February 5, 2019. They were happily married for 70+ years.
I may be a bit prejudiced by I have to say that my dad was an amazing man and father. My brother and I had a life full of love and were blessed to have him in our lives with his clear, inquisitive mind intact for all these years. He was the Absolute Best father. I have a big hole in my heart that will mend eventually but he is so missed now!
He is well known for his War against Noxious Weeds in his retirement years. He never could sit still. Always working on something, whether it was helping someone or anything to be active: Snow skiing, tennis, golf, sailing, Rotary, Cashmere Methodist church or family activities. Too many to list them all.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Warren Meyer; an older sister, Janette Robertson; a younger sister, Ardith Wilkens; and his wife, Jean.
He is survived by his daughter, Anne Anderson (Greg); son, Scott; grandchildren: Josslyn Meyer (Emma), Andrew Muhs(Brenda), Benjamin Muhs, Jordan Muhs (Emily and baby Victoria, due to arrive in June), Madison Thompson, Jesse Lindsay (Kerry); and a very Special Friend, Star, who is a wonderful part of our family. Great-grandchildren: Elijah, Drew, Miles and Kai (Andrew) and Maya, Micah (Benjamin).
He was always an active participant in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. They played ping pong in his basement, went hiking, played sports, watched sports. Always sharing his vast knowledge with all of us. Even the day before he left us.
What a man! So loved and so quick to love others and care for Everyone! I always thought that he was another Marcus Welby MD!
Thank you, Cashmere, for loving and watching after my dad (Mr. Independent). He wanted "No Notoriety" but deserves so much. I am sure someday when we meet again, I will be in lots of trouble writing this long note! Oh well, he was really a special man.
We are planning a Celebration of Life to honor him in July and will publish info at a later date.

I came to Wenatchee in 1978 as a doctor in the Emergency Department, and met Ed when one of his patients would wind up in the hospital. As usual, he was always nice to the ER docs and staff. We also met several times at the Unitarian Church when they were having meetings about health care and he and I could speak from our different perspectives. It was never an argument, just a description of the system as we saw it.

So enjoyed reading your memorial Anne of your father. Doc Meyer was the Cronrath family physician for 4 generations in Cashmere. I was a Registered Nurse and chose him for my OB because of his knowledge and caring. He loved when i would bring my 2 little hellion boys for an office visit skating up and down his shiny hallway floor. With that twinkle in his eyes he once shared what a tough decision he made between being a pediatrician or family practice. There are some souls that will be forever with us; That's Ed Meyer

To this day I perform an exercise Dr Meyer showed me that would help stretch my back before getting out of bed. He was there during my first pregnancy and I am grateful for that. I always knew he was a special doctor, basically a legend in his time.

Growing up in Cashmere, I was fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Meyer from an infant. I remember Dr. Meyer coming to our house or meeting us in the office in the middle of the night on multiple occasions growing up when I was very sick. He was a wonderful, knowledgeable man and we were so fortunate to have him in our community. Thank you, Dr. Meyer, for your care for all of those years.

Dr Meyer/Ed was an amazing man. He delivered both my children over 40 years ago, was a neighbor and inspiration to all who knew him. He will be missed.

Dear Ed's family, we are so very sorry for your dad's loss. He was a true gentleman, lovely person, a gem (as was your mom). Ed joined our U.S. Forest Service volunteer bird monitoring group at Fish Lake and Lake Wenatchee. We needed volunteers to help gather data on the species of birds tied to various riparian habitats. We remember celebrating his 80th birthday on one of our survey dates, on Fish Lake pontoon boats, he said it was the right place to be. He was keen and kind, had a wonderful sense of humor. He stayed updated on ecological practices. He often called me to let me know unusual wildlife observations. We felt it a true honor to be of interest to Ed. Once while joining for field work on Mountain Home Ridge, my map-hand got "stuck in a grip" Ed said "I know what's wrong, you're getting older!" That made me laugh, as I was in my 50s, but, it also made me feel better and I continue to flex my hands "in and out", as he instructed. It was always a treat to meet up with him at Chelan Douglas Land Trust events. Thank you for giving our world, your father, for such a very long time. We send you love and blessings, Heather and Patrick Murphy

Very well said, Anne! Your Dad (and Mom) were the best. Aside from the medical perspective, I was a Cashmere Rotarian for 28 years. It was always a treat to be able to visit with Ed during our lunches.

Dr. Ed Meyer was the attending physician for my first born son, Ryan. Cheryl and I went to the hospital around 8:30 pm and Ed wasn't there ! Needless to say , my wife was pretty upset when another physician stepped in. Lo and behold, Dr. Meyer walks in, took charge and that other physician ran liked a scared rabbit ! All then all went well. Ed was late because he was at Sailing Regatta on Lake Chelan.

Dr. Meyer was our family's doctor when we first moved to Cashmere. I was also blessed to get to know Ed and Jean from church where I had the privilege to hear your mom play the piano and organ. Your family was truly blessed to have him as your dad, grandfather and great grandfather, what a legacy.......

Such a wonderful man, doctor and friend. He delivered both our children and was our family doctor for many years. He was wise and kind. I remember when my first born was coming faster than expected, he told us he ran every red light in Wenatchee to get to the hospital in time. He will be missed greatly.

He was the best Doctor ever for my boys when they were growing up. A young mother, trying to figure out autism, he never made me feel like I was asking stupid questions, and always had time for us. An amazing man! RIP

He reminded me of the town doctor in Field of Dreams. He took care of all of us. Had that twinkle in his eyes. Loved his wife, loved his family.

My personal Doctor for many years and delivered both of my sons! So kind, so caring so thoughtful, he was an incredible man full of fun and wisdom! He was a regular at Mt. Cashmere Golf hitting a bucket of balls! Amazing man! Always great to see him, when I visited my sister, he always stopped to chat. He will be remembered!!!

Up until he passed I´d go up to play cribbage with him. He always thanked me, saying he liked to keep his mind active. He won as many as he lost! I´ll miss those games. RIP
