Jerry Dawes
March 3, 1933 - October 17, 2024
Born on March 11, 1933, in Veradale, WA, to the late Lee Windsor and Annabell (Lamberton) Dawes. The family moved to Mazama, WA, for a short time before moving to Omak, where he was raised and attended the first ten years of school at Church School in the basement of the Omak Seventh Day Adventist Church. They moved to Brewster in 1950, the same year that Jerry went to UCA. He attended UCA during his junior and senior years, graduating in 1952.
He met Marie Hiner in Brewster in the Summer of 1951, following his graduation from high school. They were married in Toppenish at the church in Toppenish on August 10, 1952. They moved to make their home in College Place. Jerry attended Walla Walla College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Accounting in 1959.
They moved to make their home in Wenatchee, where he found a partnership with Roger Dorner, building houses together until 1964. Then, in 1964, they purchased Parkside Manor from Brown Brothers of Seattle. He was involved in the construction of Colonial Vista, and its operation until early 1970. He built Harmony House in Brewster in the early 1970s and owned Highland House in Brewster. Around 1973, they sold their nursing homes, Parkside, Colonial Vista, and Highland, to Triple C Convalescence. Following their return to Brewster, they later sold Harmony House in 1993. During this time, he went back into commercial construction and traveled to the cities of their construction sites in Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Wenatchee. They built assisted living homes, nursing homes, senior centers, and retirement homes. They built the Wenatchee Senior Center.
Jerry retired in 1999, and they made their home in Wenatchee, living in the same house for 42 years.
Jerry enjoyed building, finishing work, cabinetry, and yardwork. He did all the original cabinetry of the Wenatchee Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee W. Dawes and Annabel Lamberton Dawes; sister, Nona Kay Dawes Wickward; brothers, John Dawes and Marlow Dawes. Jerry is survived by his wife, Marie Dawes; daughter, Geri Eastman (John Kofos); son, Roger (Lucy) Dawes; grandson, Jason (Kindle) Baerg; granddaughters, Ashley (Ron) Willis, Carlee (Jon) Coleman and Jena Dawes; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
