Jerry Murphy, 79, of Ephrata passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025 after a decades long battle with leukemia. He was born in Batesville, Arkansas on January 25, 1946.
Jerry grew up in Mount Pleasant, Arkansas, first venturing to Washington State at the age of 14. Happy with what he saw, Jerry moved to Orondo, WA at 15 years old. In Orondo, Jerry worked for Oxteam, Yes Sir, and Orondo Orchards. Shortly after his move across the country, Jerry met the love of his life, Judith. The two married in May of 1965 and welcomed Gerald, James, Lorene, and Carrie into the world before finally settling in Ephrata, Washington.
Jerry's passion for nature never faltered in his 79 years of life. Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter, even bringing home a 350+ pound buck one day. He made it a point to get outside every single day, often going on walks with his dogs. On these walks, Jerry would get to know his neighbors and would always have a treat handy in case he ran into another dog. We all will miss him so much, and we know the dogs on his daily route will too!
Jerry had the kindest heart and the most mischievous mind. He was no stranger to noogies, pranks, or game of 52 card pickup. While he was known for his teasing nature, those who loved him can't think of a time where he was ever unkind. His gentle and playful spirit meant everything to us.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Johnson, son, Gerald Murphy, brothers, Glenn and Johnny Johnson, and sister, Shirley Johnson. Jerry is survived by his wife, Judith Murphy of Ephrata, son, James Murphy (Robin) of Waterville, daughter, Lorrie Dahlke (Duane) of Orondo, daughter, Carrie Murphy (Jason Walker) of Moses Lake, siblings Betty Winkle, Donny Jett, Dallas Johnson, Loretta Johnson, and Ernest Johnson, grandkids, great grandkids, and many, many friends.
Services will be held at the Orondo Cemetery on Saturday, June 7th, at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch at Orondo Park.
