Edward Reed Obituary

On July 24th 2025, we lost our Dad, Grandpop, husband, brother, and friend, Edward Reed of Coaldale. Eddie was a hard working, strong yet gentle soul. He was employed by the Laborer's International Union as a construction worker. He and his one true love, wife "Rosebud", of over 50 years, made many happy memories together. As a dedicated husband and father, he simply loved and enjoyed the life they shared, from wood crafting, holidays with the family, to a funny story and his wife's youthful free spirited energy. To know Eddie or "Ebby", as he was known to his friends and siblings, was to know a person kind and helpful to everyone without judgement. He was a man's man with a childlike and playful nature. When life wasn't as kind to Eddie, he stood brave and dignified in a 35 year battle with a rare and debilitating illness, without complaint or self-pity. As his illness progressed, and at times insurmountable odds, he would continue to pick himself up, smile, deflect attention from himself to ask you "so how are you doing?" Daddy, you will always be in our hearts, in our memories and surely in some of our funny stories as well. Eddie was born on February 8, 1943 to Margaret (Fogarty) and Pye Reed of New Philadelphia, PA. Eddie leaves behind his beloved wife Rose Reed of over 50 years. Loving Children Roxanne Bonner, wife of Brian Bonner of Lake Hauto; Vincent DeGiosio, husband of Christie DeGiosio of Jim Thorpe; and Damian DeGiosio husband of Nicole DeGiosio of New Bern NC. Seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Eddie is survived in life by sisters Joan Markus, of Reading, PA; Christine Schoffman and Darrie Vatter both of FL. Deceased siblings, Robert Reed and Mary Ester Karnoval both of New Philadelphia, PA; Peg Toomey, Port Carbon, PA and Arlene Hepner of FL. The family will honor the wishes of Edward and perform a burial site ceremony at Sky-View Memorial Park in Hometown PA, at the convenience of the family. Funeral Arrangements have been placed in the care of the Parambo Funeral Home, Summit Hill. Online Condolences may be shared at www.parambofh.com.

Yesterday

Biology does not define a parent. It is truly admirable when someone you did not know takes on the responsibility and love of raising children who were not biologically their own. My family expresses sincere love and gratitude for your dedication and love of Rose and family. We will all miss you and keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Daddy you left a whole in my heart the day you left us. The only consolation I get is imagining you healthy and happy, free from the disease that you battled for so many years. You'll never be forgotten, and until we meet again I love you pal.
