Harry Bader Obituary

Harry Conrad (Bud) Bader, Jr., of Jeffersonville, PA, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 95. Born in Philadelphia on August 3, 1929, to the late Harry Conrad, Sr. and Florence Marie (nee Dunlap) Bader, Bud grew up in Upper Darby, PA. He attended St. Alice's Elementary School and West Catholic High School, graduating in 1947. He was a very good athlete and excelled in baseball, but his proudest achievement was playing basketball for "West", especially at the Palestra. Following high school, Bud began what would become a 46-year career with the Cities Service Oil Company (Citgo, today) that was interrupted briefly by the Korean War. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Staff Seargeant in Korea from 1951-1952. Being a Marine ("Once a Marine, always a Marine.") meant everything to him and in many ways shaped the rest of his life. Upon returning home, he resumed his career with Cities Service and held positions in Marketing, Advertising, and Sales (Wholesale and Retail), and was instrumental in launching the first Citgo "Quick Marts" (gas stations with small convenience stores) in the Philadelphia area. In 1958, Bud married the love of his life, Patricia (nee Sprissler), and with her, raised eight children, stressing the values of faith, family and friendship. He was the loving father of Trish Sinnott (the late Dr. Robert), and sons Paul (Ann), Edward, Daniel (Lisa), Michael (Annelise), Matthew (Grace), Timothy, and Kevin Bader (Filomena); cherished Pop Pop of Matthew Sinnott (Kelly), Patrick Sinnott (Ashley), Stephen Sinnott (Gianna), Kathleen Sinnott Wilson (Dan), Patrick and Megan Bader, Luke, Joey, and Lizzy Bader, Harry, Ava Jeanne, and Lilia Bader, and Clara, Marvin, and Russell Bader; and Great Pop Pop of Sebastian Sinnott and Lucy Wilson. Bud was the quintessential home grown Philly guy. A massive sports fan, he was always able to see the negative, even when the Eagles and Phillies won their championships! He took his family to the shore for two weeks every summer – from Ocean City to Avalon and finally, to West Wildwood where he and Pat achieved their dream – owning a "house at the shore". It became the family's central meeting spot every summer for nearly 15 years and enabled them to always be together to celebrate his birthday on August 3rd. Bud was predeceased by his younger brother, Reverend Paul Bader, who served as a priest in the Allentown Diocese until his passing in 2008, and the years they spent together at the shore in their retirement were some of the happiest of Bud's life. Bud's hobbies included golf (he started playing after retiring and fell in love with the game), watching the Philadelphia sports teams, playing the slots at any casino that was open, music (nobody was better than Sinatra, nobody), and in his younger years, dancing. He and Pat were terrific jitterbuggers together, but his individual moves to Irene Cara's "What A Feeling" are legendary. Without question, though, the most important part of Bud's life was his Catholic faith. A daily Mass attendee, he also had an incredible devotion to the Blessed Mother and would say multiple Rosaries every day for anyone that needed help or guidance. He often joked that when his time came, it would be the "lady in the blue dress and her kid" that would come to get him. His family has no doubt that they did. Bud will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to Bud's Life Celebration on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 6 to 9 PM at the Boyd-Horrox-Givnish Life Celebration Home of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike, Norristown, Pa 19401, then again on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by his funeral mass at 11 AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 601 Buttonwood St, Norristown, PA 19401; interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
