John Snyder Obituary
John William Snyder, 57, of Harleysville, PA and a long-time former resident of Souderton, PA, passed away Monday morning, February 3, 2025, at Grand View Hospital, following an illness. He was the husband of Susan Fenstermacher Snyder for 37 years.
Born April 28, 1967, in Sellersville, PA, he was the son of Donald Snyder, Sr. of Hatfield, PA, and the late Carol (Kephart) Snyder. He grew up in Hatfield, PA where he attended Grace Lutheran Church. He also attended North Penn High School, where he was a Bux-Mont champion golfer. As a child, he loved street hockey, ice hockey and fishing at Bergey's pond in Hatfield, PA. He was especially fond of his maternal grandmother, Kathryn Kephart. John had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking with others.
John was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton, PA for many years where he had a behind-the-scenes role with E-Meal Ministry. He was good at sourcing the best deals for special holiday boxes. He was a scratch golfer and club champion at Twin Woods Golf Course in Hatfield, PA for many years. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Go Birds! He enjoyed assisting with coaching his children in community sports and was a great fisherman. His favorite place to be was away at the beach. He spent summers as a child in Ship Bottom, NJ. Visiting the Outer Banks, NC was his favorite memory of every year. More recently, he spent every Memorial Day in Sea Isle, NJ surrounded by friends and family.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by four children, Willard Hayden Snyder and his wife, Marissa, of Harleysville, PA, Anise Hemond and her husband, Michael, of Souderton, PA, Colton Snyder of Telford, PA, and John Arden Snyder and his wife, Monica, of Harleysville, PA; and six grandchildren, Teddy, Rhodes, Vivian, Bridger, Ottilie, and Brooks. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Snyder, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Hatfield, PA; and a sister, SherryThroop of Hatfield, PA.
John was known as "Grampsy" to the grandchildren and most other people. His time as Grampsy was his shining role in life and he was so proud of them. He provided daily daycare with his wife to his six grandchildren. He was beloved by the staff at the grandkids pre-school where he did drop off and pick up Monday-Friday. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 69 West Broad Street, Souderton, PA, where the public memorial service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be private. Family and friends are invited to gather at Branch Creek Taphouse after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the E-Meal Ministry at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
